Sola-Scriptura destroys itself!

There are many reasons why Sola-Scriptura (Bible alone Doctrine) doesn't work. I'm going to share one I came across today.

Today I opened my Bible to

Ephesians 5: 29 no one ever hated their own body, but they nourish and care for their bodies, just as Christ does the church

No one ever hated their own body?? WTF!?! All kinds of people hate their body! I passionately hate my flesh and think being human is gross. I hate eating, hate bowel movements, bodily functions, boogers, tooth decay, and if I could be delivered from this body and be a spirit today, I would do so, and I pray it happens, I'm just not going to kill myself because I'm waiting for God's timing (And I don't have firearms). I have also known people who starve themselves, commit suicide, induce vomiting, whip themselves, burn themselves, cut themselves, and abuse their bodies in all sorts of ways.

Yet Scripture says no one ever hated their body but they nourish and care for it as Christ does the Church. Total falsehood! Duh!

This Scripture verse bothers me because yet again I have come across a verse in Scripture that appears completely false. I would like to tell people that Scripture is reliable and doesn't contain falsehood, but I can present multiple Scripture verses that don't mean what they say.

It bothers me because people constantly use Scripture to rebuke people and assume various people are condemned to the "Lake of fire", yet how do we know when the Scripture actually means what it says? Very often Scripture doesn't mean what it says...like John 14:14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

But the main reason Solascriptura doesn't work is because it is a Doctrine that destroys itself. If the Bible is the final and only authority, then there should have to be something in Scripture that says it is. I will renounce my Catholic Faith today if you can show me where Solascriptura is found in the Bible. Solascriptura has splintered Christianity into thousands of denominations because the Bible is soooo confusing. THE BIBLE DIVIDES PEOPLE!

So, don't condemn someone for doing something that isn't found in the Bible, and how about you don't use Scripture to condemn at all, because Scripture contains clear blatant falsehood, as I have shown you and is loaded with Hyperbole, poetry, parable, and symbolic speech that isn't meant to be taken literal.

Yet people constantly use Scripture to judge and condemn other faiths or say "don't do that, it isn't in the Bible". Nothing in the Bible says something has to be in the Bible to be true!

If I have to choose between what the Bible says and what some person in Rome says, guess which one I will choose. Are there some verses in The Bible that are hard to understand? Sure Pick any other book that is thousands of years old and see if you can understand every word. But I do not need someone to try to tell what it means and they do not know any more than I do. Much of religion is based on faith and much understanding comes from God, not man.

That pretty much discounts the entire Bible. No central character portrayed in its narrative ever required any type of faith. It's not a book about faith.

Boy regular Christians sure did get the short end of the stick.

By all means follow your heart, just don't use Scripture to condemn others (as i see chronically) or assume something has to be in Scripture to be a true practice or teaching

I would not expect a Buddhist to understand Christianity and the Bible. Ephesians 2:8 says that you are saved by grace THROUGH FAITH. Many other places talk about faith.

You eat every day don't you? Brush your teeth and hair?

Ephesians 5:29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church--

Does Christ think his church on earth is perfect? probably not..

My point is many people hate their bodies.

To a certain degree they do or perhaps deceive themselves into believing they do. But how many of them say, I hate my body so much I will cut it off from food so it dies? Not many. Most would jump off a bridge and decide they love their bodies about half way down.

You can hate your body and still eat because you're hungry. People have starved themselves to death BTW, and the verse says no one has hated their own body.

That Scripture is false, is my point. How many other Scriptures are false?

Perhaps they starved themselves for other reasons. Besides you have to take things with a grain of salt. The scriptures say themselves they are not a written code. The line of scripture is only intended to give you an idea of Christs relationship with his church through the use of metaphors. It does not deceive people.

But many people don't take it that way. Many people take Scripture and use it to attack other people, condemn people, and say people are going to the lake of fire for all eternity.

I can't tell you how many times I've been told not to pray my Rosary because it's not in the Bible (despite the fact that the Lord's prayer and the first half of the Hail Mary and the mysteries [meditations] of the Rosary are found in Scripture).

I can't tell you how many times I heard the Catholic Church is the "Whore of Babylon".

I can't tell you how many people have quoted the Scripture "Thou shall not make of thee a graven image" and use it to judge and condemn Catholics.

Yet they totally ignore the fact that other Scriptures God commands people to make graven images, like the Golden Angels on the Ark of the covenant, or the bronze serpent God commanded Moses to make and Israelites had to gaze at it for healing and survival. God spoke to the Israelites and met with them between the two golden Angels. Israelites bowed before them.

Quite interesting, God actually worked miracles and healed through graven images, yet Catholics are so often criticized with Scripture verses for their images.

People also have no basis for saying "You shouldn't do that because nowhere in the Bible does it say to do that". Nowhere in the Bible does it say something must be found in the Bible to be a legit practice.

If people didn't use Scripture to condemn others, I wouldn't have started this thread or voiced any criticism of Solascriptura.

It isn't just some person in Rome. It is the only Church that dates back to the time of Christ. It is also the Church that you get your Bible from.

Martin Luther and the Protestant reformers got their Bible from the Catholic Church.

The difference being "God commanded them to do it".

Where did the Catholic Church get it? Obviously they didn't write it since it's so opposite of Catholicism. They must have took it from the early Christians...which is why it's good, not because the protestant reformers wrote it but because it's the closest source to the well (Jesus and his Apostles) Published in common languages by the reformers

I know more than you think. I was actively and passionately involved in Christianity for more than thirty years before I put it all down. There are no central characters in the Bible that expressed or demonstrated any faith.

That depends on the interpreter. I find the Catholic Church to be more Biblical than Protestantism. The Bible says if someone refuses to listen to the Church, let them be to you as a Pagan or tax collector.

The Bible says if you don't eat the flesh and drink the blood of Christ you have no life in you.

Well it seems the Catholic Church stopped listening to the teachings of the early church, so the protestants treated them like pagans and tax collectors. Now when it says to eat the flesh and drink the blood, it's symbolically the last supper. When people say grace and share their bread and wine with others. The Catholic church does it differently, performing strange rituals, and the bread and wine are only for Catholics.

Protestantism was founded on an unbiblical Doctrine.

Protestantism was founded on an unbiblical Doctrine.

Guided by the spirit not by any written code... Protestantism was a good thing since the Catholic church was so corrupt. They say "absolute power corrupts absolutely" So having things spread out and guided by the bible is an improvement.
