It’s a common reference in relation to this kind of technology but not one that is typically given with any kind of rationale, backing or conclusion. It typically strikes me as just a knee-jerk reaction to fear of technology people don’t really understand (which is natural but not necessarily positive). I think there can be a tendency for people to fall back on half-remembered scripture in this kind of situation, a kind of subconscious comfort blanket.

At best it’s harmless, at worst it’s a distraction from the legitimate informed practical, moral and legal questions this kind of technology raises.

This recall is due to the potential that these devices may contain a defective part that may result in the devices' failure to activate. The recalled product was manufactured by Meridian Medical Technologies and distributed by Mylan Specialty.

I'm all for chipping hard criminals. It would save time tracking them down when they commit a new crime, and would save money digging for proof, as we would have the chip locations and information.
