Divine Inspiration

InquisitiveScholar

Wanting to learn it all..
Hey all,

So I am not one to ever think that anyone would be contacted by the divine. To me, such an event would be as rare and unlikely as a meteor crashing into earth in the next thirty seconds. So this is why I am posting, I had a very vivid dream a couple of nights ago that, although I strain to say it, seems divinely inspired. My dream was something amazing, if a little contrived. So please, let me know your thoughts and what you think I should do about it.

P.S. I could describe the dream, but to go into detail would require a post all its own, so ask me about if you want details. :)

Well this place is the worst place to ask the question!. It's like stepping into Christianity to ask about ones experience of god. You are going to get a WHOLE bunch of nonsense about 99% because of how we interpret our experiences. There is a very old story in the Old Testament that is called joseph and the multicolored coat. In the story joseph has a dream, he wakes up gives his interpretation and every character in the story goes bumbling around completely clueless till the end of the story which ends up at the beginning fulfilling the dream inspite of joseph and everyone. Dreams mean something in ancient history and were not really thought to much of until Freud really. Even today I don't think we have much understanding at all of dreams exactly. I would say that what contemporary science and religion does understands is about as accurate as young earth creationism, intelligent design in religion or we live in a virtual reality cosmology in science or nature works in accidental random fashion in evolution mechanically. mostly accedemic nonsense fantasy. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO to quickly answer, step out. John Muir said in stepping out, he discovered he was really stepping in. I would take it out, into nature, let mother nature answer it for you not us!. Trust me don't trust me or anyone else.!. lol.

Not that unusual. Religiosity is one of the hallmarks of psychosis. The divinely inspired are a major demographic in mental institutions.

Well you will be pleased to know I am not insane. I like to think of myself as quite the rational person, never accepting anything without sufficient evidence, and always asking why. Which is why I posted, it is an unusual thing to dream, and believe that it is divinely inspired. With such an unusual dream, one must seek the guidance of others who might understand, and by extension, keep the dreamer grounded.

I wanted to add Buddha had a waking dream which he is cascaded backwards in time through the entirety of his existence. This is how reincarnation and ideas develops. interestingly it matches our contemporary scientific understanding life interconnected but is expressed interpersonally rather than an observer independent from evolution as science is. So I would say dreams are tapping into the unconscious state of heart beat breathing level of our existence and that goes back to the beginning of time. So one then needs to ask what the hell is nature and get more directly aware of that, and tune out the noise of civilization. It's like you got a glimpse of stars, and you are standing in the middle of time square during the day with clouds always over head asking the crowd about the stars. Well the crowd all have opinions certainly. Some would say they believe in stars. Some would look around and say there is no empirical evidence of stars and some would say they are agnostic. That is NORMAL!!!!. Metaphysics are originally written by those who are NOT NORMAL, for normal people who then walk around pretending to understand what has been written in their ancient texts!. Even Jesus himself ran into this that's his story!. If you think the topic is easily explained, you don't understand the topic. If you understand the topic you will find it difficult to explain. ART the best method. Get with nature and create, a fantastic story, a great song, or change the world by one anonymous action at a time. There is always a deeper narrative but normal folks have no clue. Go Hike. If you find yourself on the Oregon Coast. Look me up I will take you to a divine spot called Mt Neahkanie which is native for Seat of God!. accurate somehow if you know how to see and a huge absence of city lights as well. !!!.

But without support your dream may be significant to you, it might even be true, but no-one else would have any logical reason to accept it.
There are many people claiming mystical insight, divine inspiration and enlightenment. Unless they can produce some empirical support for their inspiration it would not be reasonable to support it.

If the purpose of @InquisitiveScholar's post was to seek information on how he might reasonably convince others of his dream then perhaps he'd have posted it in the general debates section. However he has posted it in the Zoroastrian DIR ;)

Could you describe what happened in your dream?

Sure thing. So at first this dream was related to me playing Total War: Attila earlier. The dream was very straight forward, looking at terrain and seeing the best possible locations to hold an enemy in place, while raining death on them from above. The usual tactical planning that occurs when looking at a battle field. However things changed through my dream. While studying a natural stone ramp the lead up to a plateau, great for fortress defense mind you, I was greeted by a man. This man looked middle eastern, maybe southern Iranian, anyway this man, who was dressed in very nice robes, approached me and beckoned I follow. Out of curiosity I did, and followed this man towards, what was a strait on the border of Anatolia and Greece. However upon arriving the location had changed, it was no longer a strait, but rather a river, a very large and powerful river. I understood this river to be the same one that ran next to my home city. The man lead me through this city, and although I knew what the city was, it did not look like my city; this city was old, far older than any city where I live. Continuing to follow this man, he paused at the largest Zoroastrian temple I had ever seen. Like massive in size. It stood, from what I could tell by looking at it, around 36.5 meters tall (120 feet). The entrance was flanked on either side by two great Lamassus. Yet, for how beautifully painted and decorated the exterior was, the interior was even greater. Inside was not just a temple complex, but it was combined with a museum, and a school. I woke up before I could see everything inside of the temple, but the museum was glorious. The entirety of the museum was filled to the brim with archaeological finds and art all related to Zoroastrianism and the successive empires who followed it. It was, while looking at these things I understood that I had helped this to occur. I was one of the people who had created this grand place that was a fusion of knowledge, faith, and history.

Okay well that took longer to write than I expected.
