I disagree. Satanism is not about selling your soul.

http://theisticsatanism.com/rituals/pact/pact-init.html#use

How much for my soul? I'm selling cheap, I'll start the bidding at $10,000.

Any takers? I'll mail it to you.

I'll can't buy it but can I rent it for 15 dollars, a case of beer and a shoe string?

What I learned was that Lucifer and Lilith were suppose to be Adam and Eve but God made them disembodied spirits. They were both replaced with 2 other people and one of them was St. Michael. Lucifer wanted Eve to eat the apple because it meant knowledge. Eve(Lilith) chose to follow Lucifer and when she chose to follow Lucifer God got pissed. God did not want anyone to eat the apple from the tree and the reason why was the God did not want anyone to know that there were other paths to follow other well following God. God only wanted worship. That is what I learned.

From what I understand of the mythos Lilith was kicked out for not submitting to Adam into her proscribed gender role and so was exiled. It was in exile that she had sex with angels and brought into being the Succubi. Then that's when Yahweh made Eve as a second wife.

I'm not sure how accurate that is to the original Jewish mythology... that's actually an area I want to study sometime.

Ozzy was not in Black Sabbath at the time of recording Crazy Train. I think you should be reported for trolling. If you are serious, yes, you should be worried, as Satan doesn't like trolls.

Oh, hell, over the years (I've been here 7 + years) the LHP DIR has been trolled so many times I've lost count.

Part of it has to do with the fact that the Left Hand Path isn't taken seriously by a lot of people. I kind of want to report it because it pisses me off and it's annoying, but on the other hand, it's a waste of time and last time I talked to a staff member, I was treated rather rudely.

Really? I thought they were nice. I guess I was wrong.

I dislike trolls especially that ThirtyThree guy that I got in arguments with before.

Believe me, I know it can be frustrating. :(

If you want a serious discussion, you can always start a thread in Same Faith Debates, and label it "LHP Only," or "Theistic Satanists Only," or whatever group you would like to participate in it, and report anyone who trolls it who is not part of that group.

That might be a fun thread. "How to properly troll the LHP DIR." :smilingimp:

Actually, I went ahead and started such a thread over in the Same Faith Debate Section. :smirk:

If you explain what the Left Hand Path is to the average person they will not typically understand it. I personally know from experience, my dad for example tends to ask me a lot of misinterpreted questions on my beliefs occasionally and that of Satanism. However the average person is able to understand the LHP if they take it seriously on doing their studies of the LHP and being of course open minded with knowledge and wisdom.

Sorry but you do not sell your soul to Lucifer. He does not want it. Why would he even want it?

If you read the article maybe you would know that it didn't actually talk about selling one's soul, but rather making a pact. The mythos is pretty important to some Satanists.

Oddly enough I came to the forums to start a topic on this subject, as it's been something on my mind in the last year or so.

Yeah I bet it gets trolled all the time.
Think Satanism is a joke.

Satanists in general take themselves too seriously. The thread was worth a good chuckle or two. It's not like it hurt anyone.

How was it about making a pact?

Literally taken from the second to forth sentence of the link:

"According to traditional folklore, the pact involves "selling one's soul." Hardly any Satanists believe that Satan is literally interested in "buying souls." Nevertheless, quite a few Satanists, of both the theistic and symbolic kinds, have found some variant of the idea of a "Pact with the Devil" to be useful."

It then goes on to detail such types of pacts.

Because maybe some just do not want to take Satanism seriously.

There is a difference between taking Satanism seriously and taking yourself *too* seriously.

Someone should take their practice seriously, but not so much that they loose self-awareness or become arrogant or uppity about it. We, as humans, have limitations. Not taking yourself too seriously involves being able to poke fun at yourself and it actually empowers the person to not be affected by the opinions of others and generally further unfetters them from the shackles of society and the right hand path. Of course this can go to an extreme but the point isn't to become a jester.

In other words I think people who take themselves too seriously are people who care too much about other's opinions of them. It's a sign of a fragile ego and self-image. But if the person doesn't really take any of that stuff about themselves too seriously they are actually closer to shedding this negative ego-driven attitude and more spiritually mature.

This doesn't mean that they take what they do unseriously, though they might have a sense of humor about it sometimes (as I do). But that comes with time. I've seen a lot of sillyness in Satanism over the years and I have no illusion that I could be immune from such tomfoolery so I sometimes just run with it. Plus, being laid back and nonchalant about all of it kind of strikes me as somewhat 'forbidden' in the dark and edgy world of Satanism, so it's a good way to unshackle any chains that one might create by subscribing to the typical mindset.

To me, it's kind of essential from time to time to avoid mediocrity. I take what I do seriously; I just have a different outlook on myself as the practitioner. Discipline and wisdom is necessary for good practice, but as they say you gotta be able to laugh at yourself from time to time. Satanists assume too often that they are strong or awesome just be cause they are Satanists. On that same site, Diane Vera has an article where she talks about this and calls it "Satanist Superman Syndrome" or something like that. http://theisticsatanism.com/politics/superman.html She was, once upon a time, a highly relevant voice in Satanism as a commentator as a Satanist herself. But I think she disappeared to live her own life. She used to run an in real life Satanic church in New York for a number of years too.

I might actually make a topic on this in a bit, since I don't want to derail this more and I think I can better articulate my point. It's something I think could be explored more fully as a topic of it's own.
