Genie Mythology

I recently watched a Scooby Doo Episode which featured a Genie, and so I got to thinking! :D

Genie, Jinn, Jinni, whatever you may call them. What are they? Where do they originate? Do any religions acknowledge them? Do you think such a being could exist?

Thoughts?

Us Muslims believe Djinn exist but there are not what mythology describes as jinn or Genies. The djinn are very similar to humans with some Characteristics of angels. they are beings between Angels and humans. Like humans they have free will and can be evil or good. Christians sometimes refer to them as Fallen Angels.they use the example of the shaitan(Satan) however he could not have been an angel as the Angels are perfect servants and
messengers, incapable of making errors or disobeying God

@Shimi, if you want to move it to the Debate sections (where more people would see it), just tell the mods to move this thread.

Spirits made of smokeless fire IIRC, not unlike Wights or what have you found in Europe all things considered.
