comments on the Qur'an whether good or bad

Subhankar Zac

Hare Krishna,Hare Krishna,
To each their own, isn't that right? I like Sufism too, but I'm not much into it. As long as person lives in morals I'm sure Allah will reward them. :D
Mistranslations should be avoided as much as possible in holy books, that's why Jews prefer Hebrew & Muslims Arabic. :D :D

So a scripture, that speaks frequently of disbelivers in violent and appalling terms, composed by the words of a man who destroyed a temple, is a mistranslation?
How do one translate an entire book with frequent ideas of destroying anyone who's not part of their religion?
You cannot simply say that all the verses about death and destruction towards Hindus, Buddhists, etc in the Quran are mistranslations or aren't true.
Before you ask for evidence, I quoted some scriptures from the Quran I've with Me right now, in the above replies. :)

1.How many days did it take for Allah to create the world?

No one knows how many days it took. Because a day for God is not comprehensible to humans. An example is given in the Quran that its thousands. Its not an exact number of days.

Creation took 6 Ayyams. They are not days. Ayyam is the dual plural, periods of time. Not like the Genesis narrative where its day with morning and evening. Clearly there is a difference.

2. Are Jews and Christians fellow 'people of the book' who will go to paradise, or are they 'the worst of creatures'?

They are the people of the book. You should read that verse again. Chapter 98 verse 6. It does not say Christians and Jews. It says "from the people of the book". Muslims also could be included. Alladhina Kafaroo, those who know the truth but hide the facts. Of course, they will go to hell. It could be me or you.

3. Were all things made of water or clay?

Both. Just because they are mentioned in two different verses does not mean they contradict each-other, it is contradistinction, not contradiction.

4.What came first, heaven or earth?

Earth there is not earth that we live in. It is the pure form of the word Ardha. Like land, earth, ground, soil, matter.
Samaa is not heaven as in the heaven we are supposed to go to when we die. It is the Arabic word used in the Quran that refers to space in the universe.

In the verse concerned, it may refer to our earth and the seven layers around it. No one knows scientifically which one came about first.

5. Did Nuh's son die? Or no?

(Remember) Noah, when he cried (to Us) aforetime:
We listened to his (prayer) and delivered
him and his family from great distress.
-- Sura 21:76

What is the contradiction. Noah had a family, not one son only.

Also bonus question: even if there were no contradictions that wouldn't man it was from God, since I hope the maths textbooks I used at school had no contradictions either, but they are certainly not God-given!!

The Quran does not say that it is Gods word BECAUSE it does not contain contradictions, its the other way around. It does not have contradictions because it is Gods word.

Having no contradictions is not proof of divinity, but being Gods word is proof of reliability. I dont say that, the book says it.

Cheers.

2 Say: Is it that ye deny Him Who created the earth in TWO Days
And do ye join equals with Him? He is the Lord of (all) the Worlds.
+
He set on the (earth), mountains standing firm, high above it,
and bestowed blessings on the earth, and measured therein all things
4 to give them nourishment in due proportion, in FOUR Days
in accordance with (the needs of) those who seek (Sustenance).

Moreover He comprehended in His design the sky,
and it had been (as) smoke: He said to it and to the earth:
"Come ye together, willingly or unwillingly."
They said: "We do come (together), in willing obedience."
+
2 So He completed them as seven firmaments in TWO Days,
and He assigned to each heaven its duty and command.
And We adorned the lower heaven with lights,
and (provided it) with guard.
Such is the Decree of (Him) the Exalted in Might, Full of Knowledge.
-- Sura 41:9-12 (Yusuf Ali)

This = 8 days.

(7:54) Surely your Lord is none other than Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days,40 and then ascended His Throne;41 Who causes the night to cover the day and then the day swiftly pursues the night; Who created the sun and the moon and the stars making them all subservient to His command. Lo! His is the creation and His is the command.42 Blessed is Allah,43 the Lord of the universe.

Verily, those who [despite all evidence] are bent on denying the truth - [be they] from among the followers of earlier revelation or from among those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God - will find themselves in the fire of hell, therein to abide: they are the worst of all creatures. S. 98:6 Asad

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) observed: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me, but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief), he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire. (Sahih Muslim, Book 001, Number 0284)

Doesn't sound like fellow people of the book to me.
Both. Just because they are mentioned in two different verses does not mean they contradict each-other, it is contradistinction, not contradiction.

If you insist.

Not quite sure what you're saying here.

What is the contradiction. Noah had a family, not one son only.

The first verse clearly says Nuh's family were saved, which should logically include all his family. It doesn't make an exception and say 'except this one son', which it should if that one son wasn't spared because then it wouldn't be Nuh's family.
The Quran does not say that it is Gods word BECAUSE it does not contain contradictions, its the other way around. It does not have contradictions because it is Gods word.

Having no contradictions is not proof of divinity, but being Gods word is proof of reliability. I dont say that, the book says it.

Cheers.

It basically does...

Haven’t the unbelievers considered if this was from other than Allah, they would find within it many contradictions?

If you try to compose a surah that is better than those in the Quran, and then fail, Allah will burn you forever if you in the fire that he has prepared for disbelievers, whose fuel is men and stones. 2:24

You have either intentionally misrepresented a book or you copied from someone who did.

And if you cannot do this; and you will not be able to do this; then beware the Fire whose fuel is people and stones, it has been prepared for the rejecters (Kafirs).

Read from the beginning of the Surah. It explains who kafirs are. They know the truth but hide it. And it also explains of those who commit corruption in the land. Yufsidhoona Fil Ardha. They could be Muslims as well. Or they could be calling themselves Muslims. They are those who pledge allegiance to God, but commit atrocities in the name of God. They kill in the name of God. They are given the example of the mosquito. Death is their sentence.

Study the book, dont study others who talk about it. Render it from the concept of the whole book, not cherry picked verses found easily.

Have no unbelieving friends. Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them. 4:89

Is that the only verse in the chapter? Can you see in your own post that its chapter 4 verse 89? What about the rest of the verses? Have you studied them? If not, did you just cite a verse with only one idea, show them violence?

4:58 God orders you to deliver anything you have been entrusted with to its owners. And if you judge between the people, then you shall judge with justice. It is always the best that God prescribes for you. God is Hearer, Seer.

You should keep your promises. Return what you borrow. Keep your pledge. Practice justice.

4:75 And why do you not fight in the cause of God, when the weak among the men and women and children say: “Our Lord, bring us out of this town whose people are wicked, and grant us from Yourself a supporter, and grant us from Yourself a victor!”

You are rescuing innocent men, women and children who cries out to you that they are oppressed by wicked people.

4:89 They hope that you will reject as they have rejected, then you will be the same. Do not take any of them as allies until they emigrate in the cause of God. If they turn away, then take them and kill them wherever you find them; and do not take from them any ally or supporter.

Why would you take such people as allies? Kill them. When you are at war to save people from an oppressor (e.g. ISIS, ;) ) you are not supposed to make out with them, you are supposed to fight to kill.

But again if the come in peace, you cannot be the aggressor, you have to pardon.

  • And fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not aggress,God does not love the aggressors.
  • And kill them wherever you encounter them, and expel them from where they expelled you, and know that persecution is worse than being killed. And do
  • not fight them at the Restricted Temple unless they fight you in it; if they fight you then kill them, thus is the recompense of the rejecters.
  • And if they cease, then God is Forgiving, Merciful.
  • And fight them so there is no more persecution, and so that the system is for God. If they cease, then there will be no aggression except against the wicked.
-Quran 2:190-193

Context of the Quran, not a dream.

This is a cut and paste from a book.

A Kafir is not what you think?

I have witnessed many discussions, both face to face and remote where some Muslims call Christians and Jews as Kafirs and Christians and Jews call
themselves Kafirs. We should understand what Kafir means from the context of the Quran and the language at the time the Quran was revealed.

This word Kafir has evolved in its meaning and understanding due to worldly occurrences. The phenomenon that changed the meaning of this word is
debatable and bears no value of discussion, but the fact is not only Christians or Jews are called Kafirs, Muslims are too. It is personal experience of us Muslims to hear one sect call another sect by the word Kafir. Animosity of this nature exists in this world and if everyone is correct, there are seven billion Kafirs in this world.

A simile of the evolution of what this word means is cops being called pigs in modern times. The original use of the derogative term pig being used on cops
is known to have occurred in around the 1811 where "pig" was denoted to a Bow Street Runner, the police force. The reference has seemingly re-emerged
in the late sixties. The modern dictionaries pronounce it as a slang for a policeman. Is it not unbelievable that within such a short time a word that was referred
to a swine has grown to be referred to a cop? Similarly, think of the word Kafir evolving through 1400 years. This is also similar to the words ‘Hijab’ and ‘Khimar’ discussed in the chapters analysing women’s dress code.

A Kafir is someone who knows a truth and hides it
The first occurrences of the term Kafir occurs in the second chapter of theQuran.
 As for those who Kafaroo , whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe. – Quran 2:6
 Or like a storm cloud from the sky, in it is darkness and thunder and lightning. They place their fingers in their ears from the thunder-claps for fear of death;
and God is aware of the Kafirs (Bialkafireena). – Quran 2:19
An exploration of the chapter in concern in context of the surrounding verse will expound the true intention of this allusion. Below you will find a summary of this chapter’s philosophy.
 The Quran is revealed to the righteous, who believe in the unseen, who believe in this and the previous revelations.
 As for those who see the truth and hide it maliciously commonly referred to as rejecter’s they will not believe in the truth if you inform
them or not
 Their hearts and ears are sealed, and they are blind. They will proclaim to believe in God and there’s a last day but only lie.
 They will claim to be good but the will spread corruption. When they meet those who acknowledge the truth they lie saying they do tooThere are no references to religions, races or any denomination.

A Kafir could be a person who calls himself a Muslim as you can see above that when a Kafir meets one who has acknowledged the truth they lie to you saying they also do accept the truth. Right at the beginning of the Quran God has explained what a Kafir is, therefore it is high time that Muslims woke up and realised that we have been mistaken all our lives.

Of course it is common that most of us were taught otherwise throughout our lives. The Quran tells you to not follow what your society has taught you
blindly.
 And if you obey most of those on the earth they will lead you away from the only guess. – Quran 6:115
And don’t worry if others don’t believe
 And most of the people, even if you are diligent, will not believe. – Quran 12:103

1. The Qur'an doesn't claim that.
2. It does claim that, and there are no contradictions.
3. Doesn't claim that.
4. Doesn't claim that.
5. You're off, the Qur'an claims that God will protect it's words. This means that there can be fake copies of the Qur'an, but the actual words are protected by God and there is a way to restore the original text.
6. The Qur'an claims that God is one God, and has 100 names for God. Allah is just an Arabic word used for God. Christian Arabs and Jewish Arabs use Allah for God as well.
7. How is this relevant? This has nothing to do with what the Qur'an says.
8. Again, this is a random question you're asking which doesn't go along with the first 5 claims.
9. The Qur'an already talks about hadith: http://www.quran-islam.org/articles/a_dozen_reasons_(P1153).html

Sorry to this this Paul, but your understanding of the Qur'an, as well as your argumentation skills, are poor. It's difficult to debate with you when you aren't even consistent with your arguments.
I'm not arguing these points, if you listen carefully it's for educational purposes. Putting the Qur'an to the test.

Why are people seeking to much evidence for other religions?
If you want a religion to be so much proven to you go and talk with rabbis, imams, priests because they will do it way better than everyday believers.

The strongest evidence: The Quran itself. :D
That's the problem . If you follow something should you not study and research for yourself? What's the point of just following, I have seen scholars work that is not even close to accurate as well.

1. People on here say it is the definite word of god, here is your chance to throw all your theology and questions at them.
2. Here we get to see if it truly is the word of god. If it is the word of god it should survive criticism.
3. Here is our chance to educate ourselves even further by asking all your questions.

In the name of God, the compassionate and the merciful

I would be glad if could answer your questions. Specify the topic before any questions.

This definition presumes Islam is true.

Which over half the world believes it is not.

And no, we don't secretly think Islam is true and 'hide it'.

We really do think Islam is a load of manure.

So that makes anyone who doesn't believe in Islam a kafir.

Which we already know k thx.

Who spoke about you?

Hmm... So, the verses about killing polytheists must be verses about evil men and not Hindus, pagans and others.
The verses about killing non believers and imposing taxes on them must be about corrupted people as well.
What about the verses that condemn the men of Sodom..what do you think it translates to in English?

What is a problem is a good god that doesn't not have bad intentions to:
1. Create us to test with evil

Or
2. You can have an actual good god that created everything to be good, and wanted the best for his creatures, and still wants the best.
