An answer to your question. The crime is that the masses stood idly by while a few committed one of the worst sins. Witnessing evil and doing nothing makes the bystander complicit in the crime.

Its why mythology like the flood was adopted from Mesopotamian mythology. We see Israelite cultures rewriting the text to teach it sown parables and lessons and morals important to them.

This is applies to many areas of early Israelite mythology. Israelites evolved from displaces Canaanites for the most part. Being beat down in multiple wars and having the cultures plural rebuild themselves time and time again. These cultures responsible for the text in exile, had no idea of their own origin and created one to pass on morals and parables that were important.

The Israelites that were described in text ONLY resemble the 5th and 6th century people in exile and returning from exile as many claim they were forced to unify a very diverse and multi cultural religion.

Funny that a previous culture had a fist man named Adamu and that this culture controlled Israelite cultures exiling them from their own land. And we see their influence in Israelite text.
