What is the relationship between morality and spirituality?

Spirituality defines our basic principles of what is right; responsibility, compassion, brotherly love, etc.. "Morality' is applying those spiritual principles to life.

What is morality? What is spirituality? What is the relationship between morality and spirituality?

Our spirituality (our over all values we base our life on-religious or not) defines our morals. Like my value is family connection. So my choices reflect (or at least to me, should) what I value.

Without spirituality (life foundation) how do we define our morals.

You do not need Spirituality to define your morals.
In fact, many Atheists have high moral standards without Spirituality.

@OP Morality and Spirituality are completely different animals.
Spirituality In general includes a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life. Morality is the principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior.

Atheists are not spirituals nor do they have a religion. Yet their morality is revolved around common sense, logic and reasoning.

Please re read. Religious or not, spirituality defines our morals. We all have spirituality (foundation for our morals). We all have morals (decisions based on what we feel is, well, moral)

Athiesm and theism has nothing to do with humans "making good/bad decisions (morals) based on their values/life foundation (spirituality)

:fallenleaf:

Spirituality does not need to be about something "bigger" than oneself. Im an atheist and Im spiritual. I see no one or thing "bigger" than me. My spirituality Is a foundation. My morals are based on that foundation.

Religion does not need to be in the equation.

So, you believe our spirituality is our values?

If spirituality is our values, then what is morality?

The actual right/wrong decisions we make based on what we feel is important.

I value choclate ice cream (not right or wrong. Just a statement) because it taste good. If I make a decision to buy vanilla, thats wrong...if I buy chocolate, thats right. I cant make these decisions without a foundation.

Kinda like, I dont know, um, I value family (thats my spirituality: connection to family) so whatever decisions I make (morality) good or bad is based on that connection.

Morals are based on spirituality. Spirituality is our foundation to our decisions. That foundation are our values.

I guess its word play?

You askes our views. My spirituality can be, I dont know, "I value ice cream because it makes my tummy feel good" sobmy morals (decisons) are based on what I value. Usually, the decision to buy chocolate or vanilla?

Youre confusing spirituality with religion.

No I'm not confusing spirituality with religion.
You can be spiritual without religion.

I defined Spirituality and Morals.
I explained how you dont need Spirituality to give you Morals since Atheists have Morals and are not Spiritual.

I made my statement and you made yours. ;)

Edit: "By I defined I mean I checked the dictionary before I made my statment"

Spirituality In general includes a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life.

Does that involve a purpose or goal?

Morality is the principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior.

Does morality have a purpose or goal?

Atheists are not spirituals nor do they have a religion. Yet their morality is revolved around common sense, logic and reasoning.

Are you an atheist?

"Does that involve a purpose or goal?"

Does morality have a purpose or goal?

Are you an atheist?

They both have their own purpose and goal

The purpose and goal for Morality is to make good and bad behaviors clear.

The purpose and goal for Spirituality is traditionally to get a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves, and it typically involves a search for meaning in life.

I should also note that there is no precise definition of spirituality.

I'm a LeVayan Satanist. :)
