Turkey shoots down Russian Jet

Turkish warplanes have reportedly shot down a Russian military aircraft on the border with Syria.

Russia's Interfax news agency cited the Russian defence ministry as saying that a Su-24 had crashed in northern Syria, and that its two pilots had ejected.

Turkish military officials said Turkish F-16s had shot down the plane after repeatedly warning its pilots that they were violating Turkish airspace.

Video footage showed the plane crashing into mountains in Latakia province.

Turkey is, of course, a NATO member.

Turkey is Daesh member too
Turkey is rule in Syria is evil , it's cause of it's destruction by helping "rebels" for many years

Now Erdogan is trying to poke the hornets nest.

Perhaps it is just coincidence, but happened just as European countries, especially France, were cooperating more with Russia and perhaps getting closer to some kind of political agreement.

Turkey obviously rejects any kind of compromise deal. Perhaps this was their attempt to make it less likely to happen. They have been very clear that they shot it down with their planes rather than from the ground, so Russia can't save face on this by claiming it was rebels who did it. Seems like Erdogan is trying to make a point very publicly to drive a further wedge between Russia and NATO.

Interesting to see where the jet was when it was shot down.

But since Rum disappeared, both of them have been called Rum which doesn't fit in with your eschatological fantasies :(

Rum isn't supposed to fight Rum.
Eh. Russia pretty much gave up all pretenses of being the "Third Rome" after the collapse of the Tsars.

One pilot dead and other captured.Very anti-Assad and anti-Kurd.

This statement is half true. Turkey is anti-Assad for the crimes committed towards the Syrian people.

As for the Kurds, Turkey offered them rights that no other ethnic minority in any modern country has ever seen. Their latest election victory was a result of Kurdish votes who, for the first time, were free to vote who they wanted for without any coercion from the PKK because Turkey is cleansing it's southern provinces of the group.

Turkey has, and continues to offer them almost all that they want so long as they do not take up arms.

Given that Russia has crossed Turkish airspace a few times since Russia's aerial involvement in Syria, it's bombing of Turkish backed rebels as well as Turkman people and villages, I think Russia has been provoking Turkish reaction but didn't expect a response of this kind.

Erdogan did warn that Russia would loose a lot by severing ties with Turkey as a result of it's violation of Turkish airspace. It will be interesting what happens next.

It's part of an ongoing discussion about who Rum is. Some people think it means Europe (even though it didn't exist in any meaningful sense then) and I think it means the Byzantine Empire (because it very obviously does). Some people don't like to accept that it refers to the Byzantine Empire because of the prophecies that relate to the Byzantine Empire that are yet to be fulfilled. Admitting as such would p1ss on their eschatological chips, of which they are very keen. Seeing as the hadiths in question also refer to invading Constantinople and Rome with medieval style armies on horseback, armed with swords and boats powered by wind and oar, I'm of the impression that they are clutching at straws.

Various Muslims think modern Rum is Europe, Turkey, Russia, America, Italy, Christians, Orthodox Christians, Copts, etc. because they are also clutching at straws.

Rum is nearly as enigmatic as the Jews... :spaceinvader:

"Rum" is the 30'th chapter of the Qur'an. This refers to the Byzantine Empire of the 7'th century.

Constantinople was one of the major cities that was mentioned along with Rum. That a blessed leader with a blessed army will conquer it.

Russia's regime supports murderous dictators like Al-Assad, and the Turkish regime seems to want to gradually turn Turkey into yet another conservative Islamic state.

I couldn't care less about both regimes. I just feel bad for the pilots and soldiers who might be used as puppets in this mini-conflict.

Dreaming about capturing Rome is what i call wetdream!
It wont happen forget it man.

Rome(Italy) is stronghold of Christianity, no way we will be able to capture it by force.

The only way we can capture that is when Jesus returns and proclaims islam is the truth and not paulinism. When that proclaim is made then ofcourse it makes sense for Italians to embrace islam.

But i dont believe we will be able to capture Rome by force.

The best generation(sahaba) couldnt capture Constantinople let alone Rome.

It is more realistic for christians to capture Makkah!! That is the sad reality today.
