Windows 10 is Ugly

Other than all the spyware in Windows 10, it is the most stable so far....Plus runs loads faster. ;)

Why did they make Windows 10 look so ugly? Is there a reason for the 'flat' look?
I don't like it either. I actually did like 8.1 on my Surface. It did make sense to me, not at first, but I got used to it. Win 10 I'm still not sold on. At first it didn't work properly on my Surface either. Drawing out of sync. News articles linking to the wrong texts, and much more. Bleh.

I don't think it's too bad. But, then again, it isn't too hard to make something that is better than 8. It even fixed some driver problems on my laptop when I installed it, and it sped up my parents computer when I installed it on that one; however, when I tried installing it on my own PC, it killed my internet speed and at the time I was unable to find a solution.
As for the look, it feels to me like they tried to borrow a few things from Ubuntu, integrate a tablet interface into the start menu, but they made way too many assumptions with things you would want turned on, what features you would want to appear, and it's way too eager to collect your information and usage activities. With a few adjustments, I can see it easily being Microsoft's most popular and successful OS in a long time.
However, it is still no Linux, and it poses no threat to Linux being the better choice in operating systems.

Windows 10 is better than 8 or 8.1 once you spend a LOT of hours getting rid of the bloatware and the apps that phone home and configure updates properly and do much more tuning than was required for earlier Windows.

That's making me feel unhappy, because most people don't do all of those things. They just want the computer to work like a kitchen appliance. What about those people? Maybe there is some kind of 50$ utility that handles all that shloop?

(Shloop is not anything dirty and refers to clutter laying about on the floor which gets in the way of walking.)

Hours? Never heard of Google? Just Google and you'll find all sorts of handy programs and regedits that'll do it for you.

I don't think there's any utility to clean up a Windows 10 installation. Here is a set of web sites I found

some can be uninstalled in settings/apps & features.

Disable internet searches in the search field - in spite of the google I did, all I had to do was to click in the search bar, select the * for options and turn off the "search online..." setting.

Why the dismal black background of the start screen?

Perhaps one can select a lighter color, with a corresponding change in the text.
