Ordained Minister

Neo Deist

Th.D. & D.Div. h.c.
On September 1st, 2015, I was ordained as a minister through the Universal Life Church (non-denominational). My home state (Alabama) recognizes it as does the US military, so I am now able to perform marriages and such (which is why I got it). This also opens up a door for other possibilities!

When I talk to people and explain what I mean by Christian Deist, many of them relate and say something to the effect of "I feel the same way" or "I never knew there was a name for my beliefs." I'm able to explain things that are more logical in nature, especially in the 21st century CE. If I were to found a Christian Deist church, I can only imagine it would grow rather large. I have 8 years to go before I can retire as a police officer, but I think I am going to pursue the field of ministry for my post-LEO life.

I envision it as a place where people can come together and give thanks to God the creator, learn about the moral teachings of Jesus and how they apply today, and just have an honest and open fellowship with others. No tenets or dogma, no man made doctrines, no supernatural fluff. Science would be supported, not disagreed with, and people would be encouraged to ask questions and think for themselves.

Just thought I'd share.

Yes that is true. Their theory is that you don't need to spend 10's of thousands of $$$ on seminary, when you can look the information up online for free. That and most ministers grew up in a church and already knew the Bible backward and forward as is. However, you have to be registered/certified in the USA in order to perform marriages and such, so I used ULC for that purpose. That still does not take away from my future goals. This is just a stepping stone.

Congrats! And yes it can open up other possibilities. I was a police chaplain for a while. In some ways its more difficult than the regular cop stuff. Again, congrats and I'm happy for you.

I am a cop, and looking at becoming a volunteer police chaplain for my department. It would offer me some real world experience prior to founding a church.

I am also a police officer. When I did chaplain duty as well it certainly added another element to what we generally do. Unfortunately with my other job I didn't have the time to do it for long. But if you have the heart and desire it is a needed and highly appreciated job. Best of luck :)
