Indian notion of respect to elders, though I am more comfortable with Aup. Not really necessary, Tiki. Not much of a travel either. My daughter's house is just 3 kms from our house, brother another 1 km, in-laws another km. :)

Hello everyone!

I hope you are all well. :)

My apologies for not keeping you all updated on my India journey, I have been very preoccupied with the experience (and cataloguing it photographically). My trip is nearing its end- just over a month left. I am currently staying on a houseboat in Srinagar, Kashmir. Tomorrow I am heading out on a few days trekking on horseback into the mountains, and then I will be going back to Uttarakhand to do the Char Dham. Yesterday I went to the lovely Shankaracharya temple overlooking the city here- a magical place. When I return home I will give you all a good account of my experience in India, and share some photos.

Be well, everybody!

Keep safe, a bit of troubled times in Kashmir. Horseback, where to?

:) It all came about with the installation of the coalition government of People's Democratic Party (hereinafter PDP - Kashmiri Muslims) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP - Jammu Hindus) for the first time in the history of Kashmir. Hindus a part of Kashmir gvernment! That is absolutely unacceptable to Pakistan, a blasphemy. PDP has 28 members and BJP has 25 in an 87 member assembly, therefore an absolute majority (53). Even the opposition, Indian National Congress (Gandhis) and Jammu & Kashmir National Front (Abdullahs) too are not separatists. Therefore renewed attempts by Pakistan at destabilization and terror.

Now PDP has its own obligations to Kashmir Muslims and therefore they released a separatist, Massarrat Alam Bhat (the surname Bhat shows that his forefathers were brahmins) who had long been in detention (of course, detention in an Indian jail is nothing like Guantanamo Bay. The political detainees are treated extremely well). The gentleman came out and again raised the Pakistan flag, and the government had to put him in detention again. What he gains from the agitation is the Pakistani subsidy. He is considered the heir apparent among the separatists after the current leader, Syed Ali Shah Gilani, who is nearing 86 now. Gilani recently signed as an Indian to get his passport to travel to Saudi Arabia. Since the installation of the new government there have been attempts at infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan. Scores (not hundreds, very much manageable) have been killed. Indian forces and civilians also have suffered casualities. Currently they are targeting communication system, dealers and telecommunication towers in Kashmir. Generally it is safe for tourists and Indians are visiting Kashmir in hoards, but in unsettled areas one never knows.

The name Gilani shows that his people came from Gilan in Iran on the coast of Caspian Sea south of Azarbaijan.

Just barge in. Who would deny entry to a laddoo bringing person? Where have you been all this time? I see they are made lovingly with almonds and pistachios. Give me just half a laddoo. I used to eat a lot of sweets but prefer salty/spicy things now. I am from the city which created 'motichur laddoos' and 'mawa kachori' (filled with milk solids and dipped in sugar syrup), i.e., Jodhpur. Motichur laddos must be dark because they are compacted in milk.

No more Vinayaka here on RF, I'm sad to say.

But I will gladly partake :)

Any reason why? Just to take a break, I'm guessing?

He seemed/seems to feel him not being around would give many members a bit more breathing room. And he didn't like irritating people with his views, which he felt he did, even though that was not his intention.

I hope he wouldn't mind me sharing this.

That's a shame. I don't always agree with him, but who ever agrees with another person 100% of the time?

Hope he comes back sooner than a year.
