What is Tengrism?

Gok-Tanri-Dini-Hayat.jpg

First of all, Tengrism is not a religion. It is over the religions.

If Tengrism was a religion, It should be equal to Islam, Christianity etc. But no. Tengrism makes all of these religions united. Because there is no fanatic feelings in this belief.

Tengri, the creator of all things and gave souls to them.

And Tengri (God) is our father. There is no "servant of Allah/God" meaning. So we don't have to pray for God, we just pray for our soul and our peace. Tengri doesn't want more servants, slaves. We are Tengri's children and we came from him, and we will return to him.

The greatest worship of Tengrism is: planting tree.

Turkic Tengrist people, Dukha people has a strong worship, they avoid making the world dirty. They don't wash their hands in a puddle just because they don't want to make dirty this water. Only if water is flowing, they wash their hand with it.

- Protecting of natural life.
- Planting tree.
- Worship to natural souls and Tengri, just make yourself peaceful.

We believe that, there is no book sent by God. All of this natural world and cosmos is the book of Tengri.

Tengri didn't say something to someone's ear, that others can not hear.

Meaning of this word, if somebody says "I talked with God and he says you can marry 4 women" It is lie.

Because Tengri didn't speak with anybody. We have to discover him. We have to discover natural secrets. And that's why Tengrism supports science.

The Human in Tengri faith

The model of believer Tengrist is: liberal, equal, capable, not a servant(even for God), feels responsible for the whole of creation, knows that all creation is from Tengri and all createds are equal, loves the nature and tolerance to all religions and faiths.

Tengrism doesn't need a temple. The whole nature is the temple. The border of nature is bordered with immensity of the universe. So human is always in the temple.

Lack of my English knowledge, that's all I can say about my faith. But I hope you read and maybe ask something to me.

An interesting thing :). In some ways like neo Druidism where it's really about being around nature and not being as dogmatic. What is your opinion on magic, spells, or rituals? Do Tengrists practice and if so, what kind?

I know nothing about Druidism, it is the first time I hear, shame for me.

Magic, spells, rituals...

For e.g, if somebody says your name, you pore, right. Even cats, when you spell "S" letter, they care and look upon you. "Piissss pisss pissss" :)

So, like this, the natural life also has ear and we can contact with it. With the energy, soul of the life. With the energy of the tree and plants. You can speak with a tree and a flower, It will effect.

You can find a way to contact with God, climb to a tree and feel the God. Speak with him. He also has ears. You can call it as magic, maybe.

But I know what you mean. The magic is just the secret of the nature. Not occult things, everybody can learn it from who discovered the magic.

As rituals, music, dance and theatre has great roles on our faith. You can call it as animism. Music is the way to the purification of the soul and connecting with God.

Dance is related to imaginaton. Imagination, imagination... this is our "divine talent" This is why we say, we come from God. If you imagine, you create.

Magic and ritual plays a part in Druidism. A lot of nature religions will have similarities and what you mentioned about talking to plants is what some Druids do. It's similar, but different. I'm really more polytheistic than monotheistic but I recognize the God you speak of. Trees are quite an important part, especially oak trees.

Druidism is Celtic, but I'm really more Irish Celtic to be specific and I'm animistic as well. I agree that one doesn't just find magic through occult, but it's all around us.

Merhaba.

How many tengri are there in the Turkish mountains?

Tengri is the God, so there is only one Tengri all over the universe.

If you mean Tengrist as Turkish we call it as "Tengrici", There are millions of Tengrici but they also have a second religion. For e.g, Turkish Bektashi Alevis(Shiite Turks) they are not really Muslim, they made a synthesis of Tengriism and Islam, but Tengriism is more and their population is over 20 millions.

And in our motherland, Central Asia and Siberia, we have "pure" Tengrist population. In Mongolia, this faith is called as "Tengerism"

What is the afterlife belief with most Turkic Tengrists? How is it described, if at all?

Well, first of all we have to say there is no strong behaves for afterlife goodness. Good behaviors are practised by us just because of the sake of natural life.

Because of my poor English I couldn't explain my faith well. Tengrism is a Turkic religion and that's why related to MATH so much. Turkish language is also related to math and if you try to learn, you will notice it. We use and give meanings to numbers. We say "1, 3, 5, 7..." odd numbers when we remember our roots (which died)
Reincration is like this: a man dies, but his soul never die. If you die, you will turn to a "ancestor soul" (Ata ruhu Turkish)

Respect to ancestor's soul is so important. When you die, you will live in this world and you will be able to watch everything. If you have children, at the 7th generation grandson, your soul will be reborn in this body. That's why we Turks keep our 7 grandfathers' name in memory. As an example:

"My father is Chingis
My father's father is Yashar
My father's father's father is Önder ... "

And we give our 7th grandfather's name to our first child.

Well I hope you understand me because I want to continue. Life is a loop if you die, your soul will go to his father's place. Do you see? We think that, there is seven dimensions of life. This living life is in the first dimension, when we die we go to 4th, and 5th dimesions. And the people who alread died is waiting us there. And everybody will turn to "good" if die. His sins are heritage to his children.

Sins and Mitzvah just for this living world. If you do bad things, people must punish you, if you do good things of course you should get reward. But Tengri never punishes. It is like deist God but it differs, Tengri gives the good things, but bad things is caused by us. And life is endless... You won't go to hell or heaven. Just you will meet with other dimension and its people. Maybe it is located at the stars.

Music is a powerful way to worship and to heal as well as use magic in. The vibrations depnding on what kind can cause changes and it's also theraputic. That's why a lot of them tried to study music's effects and why many are used in rituals. Imagination, vibration, words, all have apart in magic, energy work, rituals, ect.

There are lots of websites on it. Truthfully I find that actually sitting down and talking (or messaging) a Tengrist is the most useful approach though. Many websites don't touch on the types of questions I have regarding Tengrism. A simple Google search will bring up lots of info on it though!

When someone dies, there is three rituals.
1. Burn: a soul reaches to sky when it's burned.
2. Birds: This ritual is so old. You can see this in Çatalhöyük too. That's habitual to feed birds in religious rituals so God can join the feast. And it's also believed, a soul gets burried to sun or sky when it's eaten by a bird.
3. Bury: This one is the most recent, and mother of most of religions. But the difference was the place of burial. A dead should have buried near sky. So if there is a mountain or hill, that's the first alternative; but if there is not, Kurgans are so frequent to make an humanmade hill.
