Should bring back some of those medieval methods of execution like being hanged, drawn and quartered or slowly impaled on a large spike through the force of gravity.

If there's a chance that keeping him alive in prison will incite riots by his allies or cause unrest, execute him. Otherwise imprison him for life.
I don't support torture of anyone, so I don't think his death should be deliberately made painful if he got caught and a court decided that he should be executed.

I find it interesting that we want him to stop cutting off people's heads because it's immoral, but if we catch him, we should cut off his head.
Maybe get one of those cult deprogrammers and an imam to show him the error of his ways while he does some time for the crimes he committed?

I favor trial and imprisonment. First and foremost, a trial helps delegitimize their beliefs. I am more open to execution for war crimes, and this would fit, but that's because, if strictly enforced against state actors, it might have a deterrence effect. I don't see any likelihood of deterrence here.

For me I want him to be stopped because he is doing it to people who don't deserve it, some people like him do actually deserve it. Most of ISIS leadership was already in detainment at one time.
Has he been captured? If he is still on the "battlefield" just kill him there like any combat in uniform and even more so for an enemy terrorist like him. Have a drone take him out. This isn't a question of "reading him his Miranda rights".
Sometimes if you can catch them, certain high level types are good catches to be interrogated for information that could save other lives. Even though this guy is a big "star" in such sick videos, I honestly do not think he is worth the time, just kill him on the field.
Now if he is back home, let us say in the U.K., you need to have him executed. The problem is the trial. I think victims such as relations of those he committed terrorism on should be a large part of the vocal input to any jury, via video hookup perhaps. The verdict should be swift. I don't think countries can afford to hold terrorists for life, today there are too many. Just execute them.
One of my relatives likes to recall seeing real bad characters being hung and left from street lamps. It was some ME, either UAE or Saudi. But I think in Saudi Arabia, I believe. She is a female, and she told me she felt a lot safer there than in New York City (before Giuliani, when things were really bad).
Now I am not saying we should probably start hanging folks from lamp posts, maybe the injection is good enough. But their pants or drapery should be hung from a lamp post or put on a flag pole for a week in front of a major post office and then taken down and burned.

I oppose the execution of people who are not any particular danger once they are locked up. That includes most violent criminals.
This guy is different. He is much more likely to cause death and destruction from jail than most people. And his public execution would probably be demoralizing to the people who find him an authority figure. This is a war, and the moral calculus is different.

If he's caught, as a British citizen he would presumably be imprisoned here. Why should my taxes feed and shelter him? Off with his head!
