5 prayers.

Salaam alakium brothers,as a recent convert, (White 60 yr old male ), not that that should matter, just putting things into context.I recently made Shahada at local Masjid, whilst trying to memorise prayer i struggle to get near 5 a day. Without putting any of you on the spot i wonder what % of Muslims achieve this. Work & other commitments? Realise can make up missed prayers but would then be praying all night at my level. Welcome any replys.

A vast majority of Muslims who do salah can do it with ease. Praying 5 times a day is easy unless you can't wake for Fajr. If this is the case it may be difficult.
Maybe it is just an issue with the Arabic and being able to recite it but I had no issues with this. I would take extra long pieces of paper and practice the position of salat with the words recite. Keep in mind the first 2 chapters recited are easy because they are from the Qur'an and the Arabic is very rhythmic.
Just keep doing it day after day and associate it with the positions that must be made. It took me about a week to memorize it.

Many struggle with it so don't rush it. Go easy on yourself step by step till you find yourself eventually able to do them all.

Don't think of it as an obligation but rather like a smoke break--if you are a smoker--or just a normal break to stretch your leg, plus the relaxing and spiritual benefits you gonna get of course.

Since you mentioned your age, note that for those who are unfit to do the proper physical prayer for illness or knee problem, they can do it while sitting, while lying in bed, etc.

At the end, better to ask the nearest local imam to you since none of us is a scholar here.

Allah knows best.

Welcome brother!
I am a convert as well, and I too have learned Salat and I get better Insha'Allah.
I have learned not to rush and take it slowly, and things are much easier as I am on my spiritual journey.

As-Salaam alaikum,
It has been 4 years since Mr. Joseph... or should I say Mr. Yusuf started this discussion about the relative 'difficulty' some converts face in offering the 5 DAILY OBLIGATORY prayers (Sallah)... the second of the 5 pillars of Islam. I hope that relative difficulty has now been over.
2. I will still advise that you/we should be constant in SINCERELY reciting the Kalimat Shahada of LA ILAHA ILLALLAHU, MUHAMMADUN RASULULLAH.. ( There is no Being worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad is His Messenger). That will make your heart work and it will give you the inspiration to prostrate [fall in Sajda]. You will want to give your highest respect to Allah Ta'ala... and that cannot be without a SAJDA... and you can only find/do SAJDA in Sallah... the 5 daily Prayer(s) and other Nawafil or Voluntary Prayers.

3. Best Regards.
