Title says it all. What biological organisms scare you, and why do you think that is?

Don't feel like you have to limit yourself to animals here; there are folks who fear certain plants, and most of us fear any microorganism that causes illness. What are some of the organisms you are leery of?

I'll present one of mine. For some reason that I can't figure out, Verbascum thapsus freaks me out. Now, as a botanist, plants don't tend to freak me out. I love all of them. But this one, that is more commonly known as mullein?

It just freaks me out. I don't like going near it. According to folklore, this plant is known to drive away Witches. Well, it definitely drives this Witch away, at least during the second year of its biennial life cycle where it sends up this inflorescence that is as tall as or taller than I am. The first year basal rosette is kind of cute. But I kill them when I see them, because I know what is coming.... that freaky, tall thing. Freaky I tell you!

This plant reminds me of a phallus. I wonder if this thought crossed anyone else's mind...

More to the point, most people people would probably think of snakes, sharks, and stuff like that. But there is something out of usual that scares me. Stuff like this:

These big ones...argh...

Just looking at this picture makes me feel uneasy.

The rabies virus for one, despite the fact that I am also intrigued by it. Spiders can scare me in the right circumstances, but I am often happy to handle them when I have the opportunity. Adolescent and adult male chimpanzees, on the other hand, are terrifying because of how strong and savage they are.

Hmmmm, organisms I am afraid of... Spiders, scorpions, stinging nettle (That shhh-tuff hurts), oooh and bees... I am terrified of bees... :/.

I also don't particularly like centipedes. I guess I really just don't like things that sting. Jellyfish too, Got stung by a cousin of the Australian Box Jelly, and I was rushed to the ER thanks to the uncontrollable muscle spasms, excruciating pain, and panic attack (One heck of a neurotoxin guys).

Mullein is great for ear infections.

In the Eastern States of Australia there are brown snakes, they are incredibly poisonous, as fast as a cracking whip and unlike almost any other snake will actually chase you.
I remember seeing one chasing a jeep down a dirt road and striking at the mudflaps. Another time I was on a remote property, sitting on a quad bike on top of a hill and saw one about 80 feet away racing towards me.

Brown snakes are terrifying, if you are not scared of them - you don't know what they are.

Some of my relatives. :p

I have a problem. I'm seriously not afraid of anything. I think my spirit animal is a honey badger.

The Sum of Awe

Brought to you by the moment that spacetime began.
Certain spiders, only the big and fluffy ones though. Luckily I'm from Iowa and the only spider around here that freaks me out are wolf spiders when grown up.

Crabs because I cant help but think of them as a giant insect (6 legs, exoskeleton)

Skunks. I have no idea why I'm afraid of them, my guess is because my first experience with a skunk was a surprise. it was dark out and i thought it was a cat. I got close enough to shine my phone light at it and then it moved and i was like 'f this!' and split! lol
