A Very Stupid Question

Last year I was obese under the Class II category. I used to feel thirsty a lot at that time and so I did a diabetes test. The test showed that I was borderline. But I didn't pay any heed. Gradually the thirst problem disappeared and I started losing weight. I lost about 20kgs. I do eat heartily but I started have this problem of dizziness a month back. It is a weird one. Once I watched TV up to 12am and then went to bed. Then I started feeling dizzy. From the last month I noticed that I became incredibly thirsty. A few days back I noticed that I have to drink water after every 15min and it is the beginning of winter! Am I diabetic? I am just too scared to do the test again :(.

I agree with Revoltingest.

Anyone who doesn't know your blood sugar and insulin levels won't be able to say whether you have diabetes or not. Talk to your doctor.

There are more things than diabetes that can cause those symptoms. I looked it up those symptoms on webmd.com.

Darl, Go to the doctor right quick. It sounds pretty serious, Like something other than diabetes.

As one whom has Type 2 diabetes, you have the symptoms that are typical. As someone recommended, you should see your doctor and maybe have him/her schedule a "glucose tolerance test" for you. If it turns out you do have diabetes, you can get your supplies possibly for no charge if you go through your insurance company. Also, like myself, you may be put of a medication like Metforman (generic) that helps your body's production of insulin.

It is very important that you have this checked out because prolonged high blood sugar causes a LOT of problems over time.

If it is diabetes you better know it sooner rather than latter. So, please do talk to a doctor and have this checked up.

Please see a doctor and do whatever he advises. Whatever it is, it's manageable. Not seeing a doctor is not managing the situation...it's guessing. You might get pretty good news too.

Don't forget that even if you do have diabetes, it is manageable. You have done incredibly well at losing weight and that will pay off big time.

Don't panic is what I am trying to say. See yer doc, and keep up the great work.

Hi there Metis. I have finally done all the tests. I don't have anything that serious. The doctor had a hunch that it might be 'psychogenic polydipsia'. He asked me not to worry too much and take a certain medicine until I think I am good. Although he couldn't say what had exactly triggered the issues, he advised me to avoid mental tension.

I'm glad to hear this. so thanks for letting me know.

BTW, have you ever used meditation to reduce tension? A close friend of mine has trouble with stress but has found that meditation works well for him. I've meditated for many years, but I tend not to be a high stress kind of person-- until my wife says "Stop meditating and get to work!". :(

Well I did use antidepressants before. I stopped taking them at the end of last year. It did control my feelings a bit. But it never stopped me from going out of control, whenever such situation arose. After I stopped it took me time to adjust. I am fine now but do occasionally break down. But I manage to get right back up. For some people medicines are the only solution. And I suggest that you don't opt for them. Reduce your time for doing meditation. And hey we women love to nag those we love :D ;).
