Experiencing God

Do you know what the Bible says that swine do to pearls?

If you throw your pearls to the swine, "they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."
(Mathew 7:6)

That's because pearls are hard to walk on.

I think it means pearls are to valuable to be given to those who don't know the value, in this case, the truth.

But they're also hard to walk on. I might tear someone to pieces if I was a swine made to walk on pearls, too.

yes I see, the swine was also believed to be an unclean animal, so those who are dirty in sin are not worthy to listen to the truth, it would be a wast of time, but I do see what you are saying and I suppose that's another way of looking at it.

Its funny, this also applies to the near death experience, most see what their beliefs or culture dictates, a Christian will see Jesus, a Hindu may see Krishna.
We tend to experience reality threw the system of our beliefs. The beliefs many times reinforce the validity of the experience. The experience is therefore seen threw the veil of what we believe to be true. This same veil hinders our vision.

Yes that is true, and that is why I don't have beliefs, truth is forever flowing, by continuing to flow we don't allow a veil to arise, for everyday is knew, this is what its means to die daily.

Muffled

Jesus in me
I share my spiritual experiences as I feel led to by the Holy Spirit. It really makes no difference to me one way or another how others respond. I may prefer that their response if positive, but either way it does not change what I've experienced and know to be true concerning God.

I didn't do anything that enabled me to invoke God's attention other than believe and agree with God concerning my need of a Savior. I am also absolutely sure of God's existence and presence, but since I can not physically see Him at this point I do walk by faith not by sight.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I believe that is my experience also and I would add that I did not elicit an experience or expect one, so the experience was completely God's idea. I did expect God to answer me because He had also answered me at age thirteen. At age thirteen I expected God to answer because from my meager understanding of God from the Bible, He was supposed to help people in need.

I believe I felt sure because of the experiences but the thing that made me absolutely sure was when He gave me a prophecy that came true.

Muffled

Jesus in me
A good example of god speaking to me was at a Church convention and I felt like I was slipping in my faith. I prayed and prayed. Then after a while I had a good cry and went out into the woods surrounding the convention and I just sat there. Suddenly I felt this surreal peace and calm about myself and I felt clear and happy. Clear is a strange word to use but It was the best one to describe it. I suddenly felt "presence" in everything. As if god was all around me.

It brought me to tears again. And I felt like my soul had been cleansed and anything that had been bothering me had suddenly been washed off.

I have felt similar experiences later in life as I got older that had nothing to do with god but profound revelation and epitomes. Both are highly spiritual experiences but now I no longer see the connection with god. I found that every time I had a strong interaction with "god" it was because I was trying to or had it in my mind. When I had the experiences seemingly independent of god it made me wonder and I've done research. Now I know that everything we feel, think or experience is a process in the brain. That humbled me down quite a bit since then.

It seems to me the experience in the woods was an answer to prayer, so I wonder why there is an effort to disassociate the two events since they appear to be connected?

Jesus in me
I am amazed that so many believers that have had "spiritual" experiences won't share their experiences with others. It ought not surprise me however, as I too have had "spiritual" experiences that I just will not share with anyone. I gather that the telling of such experiences puts one at risk of throwing one's pearls to the swine.

My experience of God has actually brought me to a point where I no longer require faith to believe in God. I am absolutely certain of his existence and presence in my life.

So I guess that leaves me with a question for those who have had God experiences. What do you think it was that you did which enabled you to experience what you experienced? What did you do to invoke God's attention?

I beleive God is always attentive. I called on God to answer me because I had a need.

I believe that a seed sown has an opportunity to grow. So a general message is encountered by many people with different reactions to it. If I am talking personally to someone who can only respond with nya nya nya nya nya, then I don't bother trying to talk sense to the person. At some point sometimes it becomes clear that a person just wants to argue that he is right and that becomes a waste of time although I have to admit I enjoy a good argument. The bad arguments drive me nuts.

Trouble with anything like this is , it could just all be just literally in your head .

How can it all be in the head even when someone cleanses the mind of all attachment in meditation, yet a serene seeming emptiness is still percieving? Empty to us because its free of all the distractions we surround ourselves with.

Because later in life I have found that I can experience this independent of god. It wasn't till that happened that I lost belief in god.

Well, the last sentence is the real right reason, isn't it?

But why is that? Why do you fear to be ridiculed if you really, deep inside, believe that you had a true experience of God?

You guys maintain that Christianity might be true because of people who sacrificed their lives for that belief. Because of all the Christians who risk their heads, today, by staying Christians in very dangerous and hostile places.

And you do not desire to be ridiculed by atheists in a forum and for that reason you keep your experiences hidden? What will God think of you? Is being ridiculed so much worse than being beheaded?

Well, I do not fear to be ridiculed. I hold positions that theists would be fully entitled to ridicule.

So, why aren't I afraid? Is that because of my heroic character or is that because of the higher plausibility of my claims?

It's what I said, isn't it?

I will not be ridiculed by the likes of an atheist with regard to my experiences of God. I know very well that God will stand behind me not sharing my experiences of Him with non-believers, as it is God's Son who has commanded me to not share my pearls with swine. By not sharing my experiences with you, I am obeying God.

If you thought there was a remote chance that God exists, you would and should be very afraid.

There is only a mind body organism that experiences fire, if you believe you are the mind body organism then yes, you have experienced fire, or should I say the reaction of fire touching the nerves. But we are not the mind body organism, so who feels the fire ?.

You didn't answer the question.

If you want to use the word god, then I say there is only one God, and we are that one God, we cannot be anything else, and anything else that we believe we are, is just an illusion.

And I say, you can believe anything you feel compelled to believe. People believe lots of things about God. And none of those beliefs are necessarily accurate descriptions of what God is.

The father or the son.
