Why do Americans Hate Democracy?

Far as I can tell, because it means putting up with people who disagree with oneself. To an extent democracy is self-limiting, and the USA is a bit too attached to its self-image of being somehow deserving of limitless excess.

Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well armed sheep contesting the results. America is about liberty not democracy.

Democracy? Where? Did we ever truly have it? Were we ever set up as a democracy or was that just lip service to the masses?

To be fair, democracy and and should aim to rise above simple majority voting.

While it is grown largely out of fashion, there is such a thing as attempting to convince others to consider one's ideas. Or for that matter, the reverse perspective of listening to others.

Yes, listening to others. I'm that old.

Oh, not to say that democracy is all that great either. Majority rules, everyone having a vote, all that, not always for the best. People, as a whole, can be stupid. We're sheep. Cattle. Blow the right horn, make the right noise, we run or scatter as expected. Those who know how to do that appropriately will always know how to swing things to their favor.

I truly don't know what the answer is. Democracy may not be best, but the system we do have is certainly, without a doubt, flawed as well. Whatever we do, an overhaul is in order.

America was never a democracy, it's a constitutional republic.

Hence my previous post about it being lip service to the masses. We hear all this blah blah blah about the US being a democracy and it really isn't. Never has been. Not in any true form. In a boiled down simplified "you get to vote" form, if one chooses to look at it that way. But even then, there's the electoral college when it comes to the president, we don't get to vote on issues, we're blind most of the time to what our "representatives" are really doing. So, yeah, we get to vote, for carefully selected people by select little groups in hushed meetings and yadda yadda yadda. Gotta love our "democracy".

What?

I live in America, we are a Republic and not a Democracy. I like a Republic with States Rights, local control, over a Democracy. And America doesn't "live in excess", I wish others to benefit from liberty and freedom too, but I am so sick of those from loser countries whining lies about racism when they are jealous and the majority of their people want to high tail out of their country and come to America or Europe first chance they get.

Get a life. Become the next State of the United States of America. You wish. Maybe I don't want you.

Good thing we are well armed sheep...

But is America still about liberty? That's the real question.

We don't have much left of it, so I think it must be fair to conclude we hate it. Why is that?

If we were to abide in Christ, there would be no need to be governed. But honestly, what we all need is a righteous dictator. The problem is, no such person is presently in this world. That individual is soon to come. Honestly, I like the idea of democracy for a nation abiding in Christ. For all who vote would have all of our best interests at heart. But I certainly don't want an immoral majority telling me how to live my life. I'll take anarchy over that any day.

More I learn, compare, and see, the more it seems the case here. Im sure colored folk and American Indians saw things in a notably different light.

Oh, you really want to get me started? :p

We have rights and freedoms we don't even realize we have, ones we take advantage of, take for granted, and ones we make up. Then we have ones that we have that regularly get tromped on on a regular basis. We are constantly watched, under surveillance, have our privacy usurped easily at every turn without most people knowing what their rights really are.

Oh, and the "well armed sheep" bit...that's a whole other can of worms for me.

And this, my friends, is why democracy can be dangerous. It could so easily turn into theocracy. Could so easily turn into the very reason the original settlers wanted to start anew. To get away from overbearing religious rule.

Let's ignore the gun debate for now, but we will have to tackle it later I suppose, since I think it's inherent to freedom and liberty.

So that was a yes and a no?

A government ruled by God is not the same as a government ruled by an authoritarian religious freak.

But more to the point, I should hope that democracy can be so dangerous. When those who desire to be governed according to and under the precepts of God find themselves governed by an immoral majority, it is time for those religious persons, if strong enough, if powerful enough, to crush the immoral majority, and live as they see fit.

Has anyone mentioned already that democracy (in the sense of taking the will, desires and well-being of the majority in consideration) is inherently at odds with personal freedoms to some degree, except perhaps when altruism is a valued virtue?
