I have not much Scottish in the trunk but isn't this vote about independence a little bit late? It sounds more like a vote to confirm union and finally nip Scottish nationalism in the bud.

It's just the Scots are cook, but the Irish cooler!
But how the Russians made alcohol from a potato before my red-headed ancestors has me puzzled. It's not beer, so it's understandable why the blonde-side (German) didn't make it first, but the Irish? Maybe England keeps the Northern part as punishment for a lack of creativity and resourcefulness and that the Russians beat them to it.

I dont actually know anything about the situation, but when I first heard about this, I really wondered why this is happening when Ireland has been pretty outspoken about it's desire to be separate for a long time.
Anyway, in my ignorance, I say if they want to be separate, let them be separate. Same with Ireland. The West should be done with the age of imperialism at this point.

If Scotland becomes an autonomous state, then the British will have to abandon Ulster too.
It is curious how the UK Government let Scots free to decide whether to be independent or not...whereas it doesn't give Ulster people the same chance

I find many things about the British government curious. They not only kept their colonies of Scotland and Northern Ireland, despite attempts and desires to separate, they still have the crown even though the crown has very little power today.

I think the issue is a lot more divisive and sectarian in Northern Ireland. I'm not sure it's really comparable with the situation in Scotland.

I votes yes. If we got shot of the Scots, we'd be spared Labour Party governments, not to mention hearing that horrible accent on the radio.
Yes. Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England should all have their independence. (Northern Ireland should become part of the Republic of Ireland, but first things first...)
As a Scot my answer to this is a massive no.
I also thing many of the arguments laid forth in this thread are ill-informed, especially with comparisons to both Ireland and Northern Ireland. These are two very different issues with very different histories.
I see no reason for Scotland to become independent from the rest of the UK, I think it would be economically unwise for Scotland to become independent from the rest of the UK. There are many unanswered questions from the Yes crowd about the future of an independent Scotland and how it will fit in with the rest of Europe.
I also think that on an ideological level it is wrong to be further subdivided countries and introducing more national boundaries and divisions between people where we should be looking the other way.
