What other types? and if you are using them in your energy study or meditations and how Do you do them..during a meditation or do you start your meditation with a ready one? Anything you can think of or remember. Where they differ from mantras? Use of sound and use of vision..or even yantra just a visiual thing or it is more in making?

You mean yantra as in design, or yantra as in temple yantra where the design is etched in a copper plate?

Do I have to pick one? :)
Well I am into this because in my meditations and when I am reading somethin that really catch my attention I am interrupted by visual combination of geometrical shapes but they are drawn so fast I cant see the ultimate picture intact.so I am brought to here to get your ideas too. Tell me about both.

Not an expert of yantras because I rarely use them. I use them only for Tantrik worship, they help me to intensify my prayers. Last I used was during worship of Devi Baglamukhi. I have never purchased any metallic yantra but always made them at home with Bhoj Patra, Asthgandha, chandan etc with the method given in scriptures. Every Yantra is divided into many portion where different powers are worshiped and finally the deva is worshiped at center.

I know very little, other that mystically they are important. If you search on yantras, you get lots of pictures, and maybe one will correspond to what you've been seeing.

They do represent different deities, which mystically would correspond to different inner energies. The copper yantras in temples are absolutely NECESSARY for agamic temples (temples built according to the Saiva Agamas) for they are said to hold the power of the temple, and even if the temple was destroyed physically, if the yantra was kept, the inner workings of the temple (like how a seed contains genetic knowledge) would be kept. The etchings in these yantras of course correspond to the deities within the temple. So someone with a bit of knowledge has to be there during prana pratistha ceremonies, or they could get mismatched. Of course non-mystical doubting intellectual Hindus could care less, believing it's all a bunch of hokey anyway. :)

The worship is done during the making? Where can I find the method told in scriptures? Thanks.

I'm sure the Saiva Agamas have a ton of info too. But it's so esoteric, yet to be translated, etc. that it wouldn't be readily available. A recent digitilization project to keep them for eternity took over a million photos. That's a ton of scripture. You might find stuff here in the download. http://www.dlshq.org/religions/agamas.htm#saiva

Thank you. Yes they are in the source yet not quite accesable. Thank you very much. I wonder why they arent used or accessable as much as mantras. Perhaps they are too powerful. Wish Sumit told more of his experience.

Like you said, they are very powerful and require much more attention than mantras. They need to be kept energized very regularly. In most temple usually, at least the Saiva ones I saw, a copper yantra is always installed under a murti, then the murti is consecrated. The murti is then like a body for the Deva to occupy during pûja, but the Yantra is like the central and powerful point of focus to draw the energy inside the murti.

Daily specific puja of the yantra have to be done, including meditation, various offerings (flower, fruit, incense, light) and very importantly, the recitation of THE beej mantra corresponding to the Yantra. Each Yantra have a different beej mantra. This is why also only serious sadhak should engage in Yantra worship, because beej mantra usually require initiation, or have to be handled with care since they carry a more powerful energy than the other mantras.

Each Yantra also have to be placed to a specific height, in a specific direction. (for exemple, Yantra B should face east at eye level while Yantra C should face north-west at hips level etc...)

The bigger the Yantra, the most powerful it is. It's pretty much like an antenna for exemple.

Namaste JayaBolenath,

Not to make light of the subject, but when I read this, I was reminded of the
giant Sri Yantra some person(s) decided to carve into a desert area in Oregon, US
in 1990...

With your statement in mind, imagine a true Sri Yantra (rather than just a form of attention-seeking by non-believers) of this scale? :faint:

Whoah :cover: I think this would require an entire army of priests ! And remember that, when it's done for "art" it's beautiful and unique, when it's done for "religion" it's stupid and useless  That's why a real yantra like this will probably never exist !

IMHO, even if some intellectual hindu does not believe in these, for just the simple reason that it is a Hindu tradition, such an individual should be respectful about it.

Hindu pujas except the 'rathams' and 'poorams' are never for show. They are internal. Even while turning the beads some people would cover their hands.

Just google for Vaishnava, Shaiva, Shakta Yantras and you will get many images of the same. Here are a few for your perusal: Vaishnava, Shaiva, Shakta,
ps: I am sure one could by them at e-Bay, etc.
