Teacher tells students to fail science test on purpose.

This is a great lesson for the kids. You always have to play the game, even when the rules don't make any sense. Toe the line, and don't cause any waves.

Ha, she got caught trying to run a scam basically. She was to be graded on her student's performance over the year. How much they learned. This test was to find out how much they knew to begin with to gauge how much they learned over the year. She wanted it to look like they didn't know squat to begin with and everything they learned they learned from her at the end. :p LOL Fail now...kick butt later. lmao! Only she failed now. Funny...just funny.

Thats why I applauded the administration. For the most part sub par teachers are very difficult to remove from their post from almost anything short of outright felony.

It seems this school system has done some overhauls and appears to be on the right track putting students education first and gauges teacher performance in doing so to ensure the best quality teachers are the ones doing the teaching.

They didn't fire her, she resigned. Now, who knows if pressure was brought to bear to get her to resign. Not sure if she was in the AFT union or not and I do not know what the contracts say. But it is possible that if she was a member of the AFT they basically told her she did not have a case for a court fight.
At least the school board did the right thing a booted her conniving butt out.

Same difference. The result was good in that she's no longer in the classroom telling students to fail for her own benefit.

The root of this problem is that the government or authorities want to use student testing as the ONLY means of teacher evaluation. I have no sympathy for this teacher, but that's what caused her to behave irresponsibly. In my province, schools are ranked according to test results, and there is no consideration for economic disparity, number of ESL students etc. Administrators take great pride in seeing results, and I recall staff meetings in the fall when the achievement test results were pulled out like some handgun held to teacher's heads. There is a whole lot more to education that test scores, like values, developing a joy for learning, etc.

I used to joke with kids that they should never do their best writing near the beginning of the year because then that's what I'd expect for the rest of the year, and then the expectations (nobody can improve each and every single time) would be really high.

We put more expectations on students some days than on ourselves. I had teachers who expected kids to have assignments done next day, yet their marking was handed back in 3 weeks.

Really? In an era when teachers are being fired for drinking beer in public and other nonsense that sensationalizes people with no joy in their lives?

Drinking beer in public? As in, off school property, off work, at a bar w/ family or friends, being a simple citizen and enjoying his/herself? Fired for being normal?
