Republican Obstruction Tactics

We're always hearing what a bad president Obama is for not being able to wave some magic wand and fix all of America's ills.

Why is it never talked about, what he and other democrats have tried to do, but republicans keep using their majority to block?

They blocked two employment bills. They let the sequester go into effect.

I'm personally tired of the right wing's whining.

In answer to your question, emphasized in green, the answer is because the righties control almost all of the press (yet they whine incessantly that the press is lefty) :areyoucra

Test of logic: If the press is lefty, would the press complain that the press is too right, or too left?

McConnell was bragging the other day about the GOP's obstruction tactics, encouraging that they continue.

I hope democrats win some congressional seats mid-term.

It's going to take some serious organizing and getting people to the polls. In 2010 people seemed to be asleep because of all the campaigning to make Obama President. Many don't understand that many of the real issues affecting them aren't so much on the federal level, even though those issues and policies can be, but a lot of legislation that affects us happens on a local level.....

The Tea Party whines about being "Taxed Enough Already" but don't realize that for the most part the Bush Tax Cuts for them (the middle class) remained in effect. It was both Dems and Pubs that allowed the payroll tax to go back up. The increase in tax isn't so much at the federal level unless you're making over $400K a year...and trust me....If you're making that kind of money as a single person you're not standing out there holding up picket signs calling Obama a "socialist"...wearing some ridiculous outfit you bought at some party store.

The tax increase is coming from the local governments. Many of the regulations are coming from the local governments. Many of the infringement on civil liberties is coming from the local government (i.e. voting rights, civil rights, low wages, high taxes, reduced funding to social programs, increased poverty and the list goes on). Infringing on a woman's right to make her own medical decisions which seems to be at an all time high in the states as well as an agenda to ban the rights of LGBT.... This is happening at a local level in red/purple states by those claiming to be for small government, less government intrusiveness yada..yada....but proving the contrary by the implementation of their policies.

The only way to break this cycle is to organize and vote them out in the midterm

I'd say its a pretty good chance democrats will win the majority of congress mid term.

The right wing sheeple will eat it right up, but most aren't fooled by the GOP propaganda machine.

Why shouldn't Republican attempt to block some of the things that Obama wants if they disagree with the policy. Many of us totally agree with some things that the House of Representatives is doing. You will hopefully note that it is called House Of Representative. This means, if you happen to forget, that the people who sent their Representative to Congress is to Represent them and to make known their wishes. This is not a dictatorship as some of you seem to believe. How can I say this? Well I continue to here from some of you that Obama can not run the country his way. And as some of you say "Get over it".

its a good thing the bills were blocked. The spending would have been enormous outweighing any return on the investment. Plus it seems centered on govt workers and public unions.

Ya right. You're thrilled with your HOR's exceptionally poor approval ratings. How can you support them? It is the tea party and extreme right wingers who've completely destroyed and obstructed congress. I don't blame them, I blame people like you who vote them in. Very dangerous, but you've already witnessed the embarrassment the past 5 years of congress.
You did it to yourselves. If you believe the Tea Party is a credible movement in congress and has anything useful to offer, I want to introduce you to planet Earth.

I finished reading Bob Woodward's latest book, The Price of Politics, a short while back and found it to be most interesting. The book is about the debt ceiling talks and oddly, "tea party" references were very few and far between. If anything, it showed the Obama administration to be financially incoherent, largely incompetent and as mired in political considerations as much, if not more, than the Republicans.

Okay so if you agree with the obstruction than the right wing needs to quit making it sound like Obama's fault nothing gets done.

Nothing gets done because the GOP has the political machine grid-locked.

What is the republican plan for creation of jobs and preserving the middle class? They've yet to say meaning the party is playing this game out of pure spite.

Every piece of legislation that goes through congress has a bill number and who voted and how they voted is a matter of congressional record that is easily researchable, please specify the bill numbers.

What were the bill numbers?

I can't remember the numbers but they were the.....

Veterans' Job Corps Act

The Bring Jobs Home Act

I think Democrats have a (Make It in America) initiative to create jobs and goods here in the US.

Something similar was vetoed by Republican Governor Rick Perry. I believe it was a Buy it in America bill.

Forward Progressives
Rare is it that you get true bipartisan support on anything political these days, but that’s exactly what happened a few days ago when the Texas Senate and House sent the “Buy American” bill to Governor Rick Perry’s desk.

Passing the Senate by a vote of 23-7 and the House 145-0, the Texas legislature overwhelmingly passed a bill meant to give preference to American-made goods for purchase by the State of Texas when they are of equal cost and quality to foreign-made products.

In other words, if an American-made product and foreign-made product are of equal quality and cost, when the state is purchasing a good or service, the state would always give preference to the American-made product or service.

Sounds like the Texas (Buy America First) bill and the Federal Government's (The Bring Jobs Home Act), (Veterans Jobs Corps Act) could have gone hand in hand to hire thousands of people to produce items here in the US to be sold in the US and distributed worldwide.

Well they have passed some legislation but those darn obstructionist Democrats in the Senate keep blocking them.

If both parties are obstructionist, then all the better.
To accomplish nothing is better than more of the same old **** they've perpetrated for decades.

You have a very valid point. Unfortunately there are those on both sides of the political spectrum that do not agree with you.

Personally, I'm convinced the left isn't that much different... but concerning what "he and other democrats have tried to do," I'd be happy to examine any of them.
