There are old Judaic stories of rain being a result of prayer. Rain is overly symbolized as holy for some reason and this occurs in numerous unrelated cultures.

For certain Hindus this is indeed common and I have learned about it although I do not know the specifics. But yes it is very common to pray for rain if one is a Hindu, Jew or Neo-Pagan. These are very common traditions one can link in all three religions. Rain is often desired by Hindus for agricultural purposes primarily hence its even bigger importance

Hostis humani generis
It may be, I don't see why not. Hinduism isn't one uniform religion; it is several religions united.

in Islam we pray also for rain, but do they really put themselves in a drum full of water while praying?

Rituals can heavily differ according to local custom. I am very sure they submerge themselves in such a manner.
Hindus have done far more obscure things before honestly. Elaborate rituals like this are the primary reasons Sanatana Dharma is best learnt in person

Didn't the actual link give more information as to how common it might be? I don't think it's all that common, but rain is so important it's prayed for in a lot of cultures.
