Just a few newbie questions

Open_Minded

Nothing is Separate
Hello:

I'm new to the fourms and have a few questions:

  1. Where/How do I add a signature to my settings?
  2. How do I become a member of a DIR forum?
  3. Can I be a member of more than one DIR forum?
  4. What does "DIR" stand for?
  5. Oh Yeah ... what is a Frubal?
Thanks in advance:

(If there are any other Newbies with questions, feel free to post them here. We can make a thread dedicated to Newbie questions so that when others come on board they can find answers.)

Adhering to that religion.

OK - So .... I'm a Christian Contemplative

Do I automatically belong to both:

  1. Christianity DIR
  2. and Mysticism DIR
Or ... do I need to subscribe somewhere?

Thank you for your help.

I don't see a problem in those.

It becomes more difficult when you're a Muslim Mormon Jain than a Christian mystic. :p

We don't care what your religion is in the Mystic's DIR! :D

That's wonderful. In the past, I had a lot of involvement in a local interfaith group. It's nice to know that Mystic's DIR is interfaith. Much can be learned if we are willing to explore paths we are not familiar with. :)

My understanding of the DIR is not so much that is is about membership as it is about a space to respectfully discuss a particular religion/philosophy/viewpoint. Anyone can post in the DIRS as long as it is politely considerate of the viewpoint of that religion/sect.

Thanks everyone, for the welcome. And for answering my questions.

Now - can someone explain the anagrams ;)

OK - another newbie question. Folks are giving me frubals and I would like to thank them. But when I go to their Visitor Messages area, I can not find a place to leave a message for them. I have to send them a private message. How can I just leave a simple thank you in their Visitor Messages area?

Hello:

I'm new to the fourms and have a few questions:
I see your questions received answers, but our forum can seem pretty vast when you start posting here, so I'd like to address a few of your questions a bit, just to make it easier for you.

[*]How do I become a member of a DIR forum?
The DIRs are dedicated to the various religions our members practice. The main idea for example is for Jews to have a Judaism DIR where they can discuss the religion between themselves, and where other members can ask respectful questions. In order to be a member of a DIR you need to be a member of the religion. This is usually solved by the way you label yourself in your religion label, and of course by the fact that you use the DIR in a way which does not provoke other members of the religion. The concept is best illustrated as a house of worship. For example we wouldn't go into a church and a mosque and provoke the worshipers. Likewise when we post in the Christianity DIR or the Islam DIR we keep that in mind.
[*]Can I be a member of more than one DIR forum?
This can get tricky. With some DIRs it's easier. For example if you are a Christian Mystic than obviously both the Christianity DIR and the Mysticism DIR would be opened to you. But you can imagine that for people who label themselves both as a Christian and a Muslim, there might be a few problems with being consistent. The main guideline is to respect the dominating narratives of the religion the DIR represents.
[*]Oh Yeah ... what is a Frubal?
When a member wishes to let you know they liked your post they might frubal you. Ideally for an informative, learned, or creative post. But many frubals are also given more freely than that. The system has went through several transformations.

OK - another newbie question. Folks are giving me frubals and I would like to thank them. But when I go to their Visitor Messages area, I can not find a place to leave a message for them. I have to send them a private message. How can I just leave a simple thank you in their Visitor Messages area?
You can leave a message on members' profile, all you need to do is visit their profile. There is a message box you can use there.
Personally I don't feel there is a need to thank each and every frubal, as you can reach hundreds and more of frubals the more you stay here and it simply becomes part of the forum experience. You can of course give frubals for posts that you personally find to contain original and good material.

You have to be a member for at least two weeks to be able to post visitor messages, but it looks like you have been here long enough.
