Well, do you? Have you ever had one? Do you regularly get them, or only once in a while?

Never.

My Mom and little Sis get them because they both have compromised immune systems because of a being a transplant recipient and having Crohns respectively.

I get it most years. I didn't get one this past year (mainly because with my move, I didn't have a doctor until a few weeks ago).

If your Mom and sister are immune compromised, why wouldn't you get a flu shot? Your vaccine would help to protect them, too.

I got my first one last year (at the beginning of the current season). I hadn't before because I'd heard that it was intended for the very young or old, and those with compromised systems. Then this season I heard that everyone should get one (and my grandparents had just moved to a retirement home) so after checking with a doctor friend of mine I went ahead and got it.

About 3 weeks later my entire family came down with the flu and I was the only one not to get it.

I do not get the vaccine. I have nothing against it, it's just that I am more into wellness than being stricken by marauding diseases that are out to get me.

I only got one once because I had a job where it was supplied to us and we were strongly encouraged to accept it.

I didn't get one this year (or almost any year), and ended up with a pretty epic flu this year.

Alhamdulillah!
A couple of years back I had to have one due to a family member having cancer treatment which pretty much wrecked his immune system, and so all immediate family got the shot.

Otherwise I don't get the shot every year, in part as the flu jab system here only counts pregnant women, over 65s, those with chronic illnesses and anyone who works in healthcare as needing them.

Well.... factor one.... because I see them only a couple of times a year at best.
In the past... one every year or two....
And I certainly wasn't traveling while I was sick.

Second factor, I don't get the flu but once in a blue moon.
I actually can't remember the last time I had it.
Welllll over 7 years now.
In my life, come to think of it... I think I've had the flu 3-4 times and it cleared up in a day or two.

And fun fact.... during those 7 years I was a transit rider in two of Canada's biggest cities.

You are suggesting that I should get the shot to help others?
I get it.

But what if I'm sick next to never?
The one time I had the flu as an adult, I kept to myself and didn't go out.
And was over it in a day.

I have never had a flu shot. I have experienced the flu only once many years ago. My husband had a flu shot and he got a mild case of the flu, his father did too. If I get sick I can stay home for the duration, if necessary.

I've never had one and don't intend on every getting one.
I don't see the point. I almost never get the flu. Last year I didn't even get a cold. Besides that, i know far too many people who get very heavy flus straight after getting the vaccine. I even know one lady who had never had a flu her entire life but in her 50s became a nurse and had to get one. Immediately after she got her first even flu and has had them every year since then.

No thanks.

I get one when I'm not too lazy.
This year I was lazy.
I rationalize that it's OK since I don't come into contact with the public too much anymore during the winter.

Okay. I assumed that you saw them frequently.

No, it wasn't. Your symptoms might have only lasted a day, but your risk of infecting others didn't:

So, when are you most contagious? Most experts agree that adults with a cold or the flu start being contagious about a day before they start experiencing symptoms. For the flu, the contagious period then lasts five to seven days into the illness.

I don't know how it works in other countries, but in mine the government handles most of the vaccination. And flu shots are only given to people at the "risk group'' ( old people, for example ). So it is not particularly common for people outside this group to get flu shots.

I've never had a flu shot and I honestly can't remember having had the flu. Bad cold? Yeah. Sinus infections? Sure. The flu? Not to my recollection. If it ain't broke... ;)

I've had flu shots a few times, particularly in the last few years.

It seems to have helped. I used to get flu quite often before.

No, it wasn't. Your symptoms might have only lasted a day, but your risk of infecting others didn't:

As an adult, I only did this once. Before that I was just a dumb kid listening to adults and trusting their knowledge.

Good info. Thanks for caring to share it.
Now I can be a more informed adult.
Not like those ninnies that raised me ;)

The Sum of Awe

Brought to you by the moment that spacetime began.
I haven't had one for a couple of years and my mom signed me up for a flu shot thing in my school but I forgot to go get the flu shot and just got over a horrible flu which I had for about 2 weeks.

Then again, last weekend it felt like it was over but it came back and hit me, maybe it will come back, not sure.

If something only lasted a day then chances are it wasn't the flu anyway. There are bugs that may mimic and seem like the flu, but pass through the system rather quickly and to a much lesser extent than the actual flu. One may just have a simple viral "bug" that a flu shot wouldn't have helped anyway. Something thrown under the heading of gastroenteritis or the like.
