What is spiritual blindness?

Some people say it is the refusal to see salvation is through The Son of God.

I have seen a kind of blindness in believers. It is a declaration of faith in opposites. For instance it is teaching that something will cause an adverse judgement but the believer is doing exactly what they are saying should not be done.

There are four scriptures that apply.

John 12:40
New International Version (©1984)
"He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn--and I would heal them."

2 Corinthians 4:4
New International Version (©1984)
The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

1 John 2:11
New International Version (©1984)
But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.

Ezekiel 12:2 "Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people."

I say it means blindness in believing people, not in unbelieving people.

The opposite of unbelief at 2 Corinthians 4:4 is Strong's 4103 pistos which means faithful, reliable.

People can be certainly "blinded by rage," blinded by hate, jealousy, envy, etc., which can close minds to sane and rational thought.

I have by way of freak accident been blind....seven days.
Lucky me.....the injury healed.
But never have I forgotten.
And I know that when death takes my vision.....I won't stop 'seeing'.

I have also known my limbs to be cold and unresponsive.
But I did not stop 'feeling'.

Life is more than incoming sensation.
Death will cease your play here in this world.
But I see no cause to say it kills your spirit....as it does your body.

Many people 'feel' the need for proof.
Show me.
Many people insist on the proof as tangible.

But is seeing.....believeing?
Can you trust your eyes on every count?

I suppose it's natural to be a 'doubting Thomas'.
But Thomas was admonished for such doubt.

To answer the OP's question, spiritual blindness quite often manifests as the cult of scripture over true religiosity. And on over-valuing the idea of belief in God to the detriment of actual faith and behavior.
