Breastfeeding baby doll: Creepy or groundbreaking?

Or it could mean she is expressing an inate drive to take care of a young infant, and such a toy is a good teaching tool.

Come to think of it, in our house, I don't think any baby doll has a bottle anyway. My own babies never had bottles, I exclusively breastfed, so their natural inclination with a baby doll has never been to shove a bottle in its mouth. They've used little bowls and spoons to feed the dolls, but never bottles. I've seen my daughter hold a baby doll tight to her before but never thought anything of it. She knows what "boobies" are and that she got her milk from mine when she was smaller. Heck, I really don't see anything "creepy" about such a doll at all. One with a bottle would be the "unnatural" one.

While there is nothing "immoral" or "wrong" with the doll, I still can't help but find it creepy and disturbing. But I find baby dolls in general to be creepy and disturbing.

I think it's amusing at best. Odd at worst.

Hence, it doesn't exactly show up on my radar as anything that is creepy or endearing.

If it does anything at all it just shows that US Americans are one uptight bunch of weirdos in general. I mean really, accusing the toy company that makes them of being "pedophiles"? Americans have issues, and I say that as an Iowan.

I agree, and I say that as a fellow southern Illinoisian, which the area can be as red as the next small town in middle America. ;)

What if they had pretend menstrual pads with fake blood? What it would mimic isn't immoral or unnatural in any way of course, but would still be a rather tasteless toy, wouldn't it?

Um, hm, the sweet sounds of a baby suckling, the joy of bonding with your baby, being a mommy to a sweet baby. Things a little child wants to emulate and idolizes about their mother.

Cramping, messy blood, mood swings, feminine hygiene products, and many other unpleasant things that women don't enjoy in general. Why would any child even want to emulate those things??? Let alone the idea of creating toys to do so.

Why would you compare the two?

I truly wonder why would a child want to emulate disposing of feces of the baby o.o

I say all the babies that imitate bodily functions are immoral and should be banned :p

If they want to be creepy, they can just potty train rocks

I've never seen one that poos before. They make ones that pee. It's just water that runs through the doll into little play diapers. All little kids are fascinated with peeing. Think about it. Even in the bathtub you know you played with the little toys that squirted water and pretended they were peeing. :p All kids do.

One is imitating the mother caring for her baby; I certainly don't have to care for my menstruating daughter(s)...

Food... menstrual blood... not seein' it.

Yeah, this state is literally a microcosm of the sharp cultural divide of the Mason-Dixon Line. :D

Indeed it is.

No, I really didn´t :p

I played in bath tubs, and pretended that the guns were firing some kind of ray or poison or stuff when it was only water. And that I was a big evil monster battling with some bathtub appliances too (and have the scars to prove it! ) , but never did I pretended Dr Octopus was peeing on Spiderman through his sci-tech gun o.o

Oh and btw:

If it's okay for children to imitate shooting each other with laser guns and using fake swords to pretend to stab each other, then I'd hardly consider those dolls to be 'creepy'.

Your bath toys had guns??? My kids play with floating ducks and fish and hippos and turtles and such. My daughter has a mermaid bath doll too. You know...normal bath toys :p Same things I played with as a kid.

As for the link...well now I've seen it all. A doll that poos. LOL

Our kids took water guns into the bath with them. Made for some interesting bath times. :D

I thought the link was hilarious. LOL

My kids don't need water guns in the bathtub. I get squirted enough as is by the turtles, hippos, elephants, crabs, dolphins and all the other random animal squirt toys they have in there. :p Believe me, I get enough water in the bathroom already. ;)

Creepy is a totally subjective judgement. As I said earlier, I think dolls in general are fair creepy (it's those dead eyes), and the ones that mimic bodily functions are gross on top of it. That said, a breastfeeding doll is a good deal less disgusting than toy excrement.

But doing so is perfectly natural. Our ancestors stabbed each other with laser sables and killed each other with laser guns for centuries.

Children do not breastfeed though! :cover:
