Breastfeeding baby doll: Creepy or groundbreaking?

I find it absolutely shocking that young children would be taught breasts are for feeding infants while everyone knows breasts are for sex. Shocking!
Absolutely!

"We’ve got dolls that wet, crawl and talk. We’ve got dolls with perfect hourglass figures. We’ve got dolls with swagger. And we’ve got plenty that come with itty bitty baby bottles.
I find all dolls slightly creepy, and the ones that mimic bodily functions especially so. This is no worse than the others, and better than Bratz.

Back in my day (lol) I had dolls that only had plastic head and limbs, the rest of the doll was stuffed. It wasnt all prettied up, didnt have rosey cheeks, wasnt fancy at all. That was cool enough for me lol. Though I did prefer playing with toy cars :p

I find it creepy in general that they like the babies that: poo, cry, pee, etc.

In some way, this is one of the less creepy. In other way it ismore creepy.

You want less creepy? Start selling REAL babies as toys!

wait...hummm...

And conservatives thought American children are growing up too fast prior to this!
I think it's creepy. And yet, it's the next evolution that programs girls into their role as mothers, wives,etc...
It's particularly interesting that someone thought this would be a brilliant doll to market in the U.S. when mother's are under fire for daring to breastfeed real babies in public.

Imagine if this doll is purchased and a little girl takes her dolly out for a stroll and all the sudden it's hungry. Especially in the ultra-conservative Bible belt area's of the U.S.

You could probably hear Fundy heads exploding left and right if you were very very quiet.

What's creepy is that society would find so natural a childcare task as breastfeeding creepy.

Little girls seem to enjoy simulating child care with dolls; probably an innate instinct. Why would you exclude such a basic task as natural feeding from this play?

I hadn't considered it before but actually mainstreaming dolls like this could have a positive effect as acceptance of real life public breastfeeding is concerned. The more visible and mainstreamed a thing is the more accepting people become of it in general. If you're not gunna ask a kid to stop play nursing her doll in public, it might just make you less likely to ask a real woman to stop nursing her baby in public. maybe?

Not bothered by it. It's just what kids do, mimic their parents. Obviously they have no idea how hard it is to take care of... Anything. Everything is play and make believe. If someone believes that it's wrong then take away the toy mechanic's table and little kitchenettes, etc, otherwise it's hypocritical. I'm pretty sure a LOT of toys involve kids pretending to be adults in one way or another.

But guys, I'm really interested by the psychological side of this. Do you think these toys can have an effect on the person growing up?

I've never had baby dolls. I'm a lone child and although I had younger cousins, never felt like I wanted to "take care" of a baby. I wonder if that affected me, as I do not want children and honestly don't see what's so cute about babies.

Thoughts?

I'm not bothered by it one bit. All of my daughters imitated me breastfeeding, and they all got over it. We make a big deal out of the most dumb *** things.

Pretty much the above. Believe it or not, being aware of the function of breasts and even being able to imitate it is not something that destroys young girl’s souls.

If your daughter wants a breast feeding doll that means she needs to get married off pronto.
And if your son wants a cap gun that means he needs to kill something pronto.

And if your wife wants a vibrator that means she wants out of the marriage pronto.

And if you want a sports car that means you need a penis enlarger pronto.

It all makes sense in the light of silly.

Or it could mean she is expressing an inate drive to take care of a young infant, and such a toy is a good teaching tool.
