No resident will say "I am sick".

It has been taught that Isaiah 33:24 means a time will come when every one will be illness free. There will be no resident who will say "I am sick".

The word understood "sick" means weak or fallen. A person can be weak and/or fallen but be without disease. So I don't know why it means what they say it means.

The other two places the word is also used are

Proverbs 23:35
They hit me," you will say, "but I'm not hurt! They beat me, but I don't feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?

and

1 Samuel 30:13
David asked him, "To whom do you belong, and where do you come from?" He said, "I am an Egyptian, the slave of an Amalekite. My master abandoned me when I became ill three days ago".

I propose it means that no resident will say to his neighbor "I am falling under my load". I think it does not mean physical sickness.

The next phrase seems to confirm it; the sins of those who dwell there will be forgiven.

Matthew 11:28,29
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

For the Hebrew speaking crowd: Might that be right?

I had a really good day. I probably do not need to be noticed on RF. And it is OK that I am not.

Hi savagewind ,

I am not a Hebrew speaking person, but i did want to acknowledge you :)

"I propose it means that no resident will say to his neighbor "I am falling under my load". I think it does not mean physical sickness."

too new to know how to post your quote:cool:

If it is so, that the word there is meaning that in Hebrew, then your statement makes sense to me.

I am curious of this too now.

Isaiah 33:24 is a principal doctrine of the Jehovah's Witnesses. It is their sincere wish to live in a world under the direction of the Prince of Peace. In that world there will be no sickness per each inhabitant according to Isaiah 33:24. The written testimony about 'Jesus Christ' enlightens the reader that it is in the power of The Christ to heal. Luke 9:11 but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing

So they use the scripture at Isaiah 33:24 to prove that it will happen world wide. It is the only OT scripture that tends to be in harmony with the healing power that is in 'Jesus'. But I think it does not mean that.
I have been observing that my burden is lifted by the power of belief in the Son of Man. I am sure that is what it means. It has to do with freedom from the burden of sin, not from the burden of sickness. Does sin cause sickness? Maybe, but it is important to understand The Word as it was meant to be understood.

PS I have given you a frubal for answering me! Thank you! Check out on top your 'user CP'. It will show you what people have said about you. And WELCOME to the forum.

Good question. Why does it matter that it does not say no resident will say they are sick. It is because the hope for the elimination of sickness is future. The right meaning which is the lifting of a heavy burden is present. The difference between some time in the future and now. Am I crazy? To me it means a HUGE difference.

This quote states Jehovah's witnesses position on Isaiah 33:24:

ip-1 chap. 26 pp. 352-355 pars. 20-22 “No Resident Will Say: ‘I Am Sick’” ***

This section of Isaiah’s prophecy concludes with a heartwarming promise: “No resident will say: ‘I am sick.’ The people that are dwelling in the land will be those pardoned for their error.” (Isaiah 33:24) The sickness that Isaiah speaks of is primarily spiritual, for it is connected with sin, or “error.” In the first application of these words, Jehovah promises that after their release from Babylonian captivity, the nation will be healed spiritually. (Isaiah 35:5, 6; Jeremiah 33:6; compare Psalm 103:1-5.) Having been forgiven for their former sins, the returning Jews will reestablish pure worship in Jerusalem.
However, Isaiah’s prophecy has a modern fulfillment. Jehovah’s people today have also enjoyed a spiritual healing. They have been liberated from such false teachings as the immortality of the soul, the Trinity, and hellfire. They receive moral guidance, freeing them from immoral practices and helping them to make good decisions. And thanks to the ransom sacrifice of Jesus Christ, they have a clean standing before God and enjoy a clean conscience. (Colossians 1:13, 14; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 4:10) This spiritual healing has physical benefits. For example, avoiding immoral sex and the use of tobacco products protects Christians against sexually transmitted diseases and certain forms of cancer.—1 Corinthians 6:18; 2 Corinthians 7:1.
Moreover, there will be a grander fulfillment of the words of Isaiah 33:24 after Armageddon, in God’s new world. Under the rulership of the Messianic Kingdom, humans will experience a great physical healing along with their spiritual healing. (Revelation 21:3, 4) Shortly after the destruction of Satan’s system of things, miracles like those that Jesus performed while on earth will no doubt take place on a global scale. The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the lame will walk! (Isaiah 35:5, 6) This will allow all survivors of the great tribulation to share in the grand work of bringing the earth to a paradisaic condition.

That's beautiful rusra02. Thank you. I was wanting to give you the last word on my thread but for the sake of my new friend I will attempt again to explain. Please bear with me!

It does not mean spiritual sickness either. It means buckling under a load (1 Samuel 30:13)or an attack (Proverbs 23:25). Sin loads a person's conscious down so that is why the conclusion was drawn by the writer of the above publication. But sin does not always do that. Have you never heard of serial murder? Ecclesiastes 8:11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
Then if it is not meaning physical or spiritual sickness, what is it ALL residents of the promised spiritual nation should be on the lookout for? To be reborn to be under the light yoke of The Savior that is never too heavy. No resident will be able to complain the command is too heavy to bear. Not even one. Not even to themselves in their own heart, mind and soul. Is it not true that God can hear if you bless or if you complain in your head? If someone is complaining about their burden in their head what does it mean please?

Considering the context of a ships tackle having the strength to hold or not, I would translate it as weak not fallen. Weakness could fit into the Samuel verse also because a weak person can't carry a burden. As for the last verse weariness and depression are also weaknesses.

I agree the context doesn't support a spiritualization. Needless to say that the JW's often congratulate themselves on being right when they are so often wrong.

Yes, but without a Savior weakness always leads to fallenness. Which isn't a word, but do you get my drift? Thank you Muffled.

1 Peter 5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast

Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

That would be the case if there were any justification for spiritualizing the passages but there is none.

savagewind,
It really makes no difference which, both will take place in the New system of things, The Thousand Year Judgement Day, mentioned at Rev 20:2,3,4,6. During this period the Kings and Priests mentioned at Rev 21:4-6 will be ruling over the earth along with Jesus. This same time period Satan will be in the Abyss, not able to mislead anyone on earth.
Some of the consitions the New Jerusalem will bring to earth will be what is mentioned at Rev 21:1-5. There are many other good conditions that will be put into place during that time, Isa 11:6-9, 65:17-25. We know that many of the things mentioned here have not happened on earth since Adam and Eve, they take place when Jesus comes again. At that time there will be no problems of any kind. At the end of the Thousand Years Satan will be loosed for a little while to try to mislead the people who have lived through the Judgement Day. All who do not listen to Satan will be granted Everlasting Life, on the then perfect earth, with all the people having grown back to perfection, just as Adam and Eve were before the fall.
