The secrets of Freemasonary

Your experience of freemasonry will always be that of one who gains no entry.

If you don't get initiated then yes.
If you gain entry - which is possible for any man or woman of full age and of good report, then you will understand the secret ;)

No, the women are in a separate group called "Evening Star."

This is not correct.
There may be such an Order as the Evening Star. However women have been accepted into Freemasonary for a long time now. Under the French Duristiction of the Grand Orient, women can be initiated in the Co-Masonic lodges. They can work all the rites, Scottish, York, Memphis-Mizraim. What they can't do is join the UK or US Grand Lodge as this is still men only. However these are just 2 of many many many freemasonic bodies in existance - they call themsleves "regular" but this is a misnomer. All rites are irregular when compared to each other.

However no matter what system of Freemasonary you work, the first 3 dregrees are the same. They teach the secrets of Birth, Life and Death - through whatever lens you are choosing to look through. A lot of the philosophy of freemasonary is taught through the Christian paradigm, so the characters are biblical etc. However there is Egyptian Freemasonary, Arabic Freemasonary...

If you join the French Duristiction (Grand Orient) you need only believe in a Creator or Grand Architect so their lodges are more secular.

In the USGL and the UKGL you need to be Christian and many of the extention degrees of the Royal Arch and SRIA require you to be a Christian.

I am a member of Order Templis Orientis which forms a masonic acaemdey that emalgamates every freemasonic rite in existance and combines all the secrets of Western Freemasonary with Eastern Tantra.
Through OTO I hold the equivalent to the 17th Degree of the Scottish rite, having worked all the Craft degrees I-III and the Royal Arch IV in this system.

OTO is unique in that you don't place faith in a God as the Grand Architect - You are the grand Arcitect ;) I've found the whole experience to be extremely enlightening :D

I actually know where they are, but I'm too chicken to join yet. They're also a bit far.

What about the whole you need two members to vouch for you thing?

The process for joining works like this:

You contact your local lodge and signifiy your wish to join.
They will either invite you to an event or someone will meet with you to discuss how the lodge works
You will get a form to fill in which will be signed by 2 members of the lodge, either ones you've met at the event or by recommendation from the person who met you.
As long as you are over 18 and have no criminal convictions you will recieve sponsorship.

If you've chosen the "regulars", You will then take the Entered Apprentice Degree and get given a very boring looking apron :D
You will then take the next 2 degrees over the next year or so, after which you will start taking officer roles in the lodge which require you to learn lines and perform roles in initiations and rituals.
You'll meet 4 or so times a year to hold initiations and charity events.

Thank you for your explanation.

Almost everything I know about the Masons comes from my best friend's father. We're in America, so I get that perspective. Your mentioning of a difference outside America and Britain is new to me.

Thank you.

"No amount of reading books will teach you the secrets of Freemasonary.

You can listen at the door, watch videos, learn the passwords, grips and signs.

But you still won't know the secret....

The real secret is incommunicable...

The secret is The Experience Itself."

Thoughts?

The secret of Masonry isn't really a secret at all but it is the esoteric heart of all religions being - The All is The One. The Holy Spirit, the Ruach, the Ruh, the Purusha, etc.
Freemasonry deals with Death, Love and the Spirit all in arcane spiritual symbolic ritual.
As Masonic ritual and etiquette shows, love is the essence of All (literally, the universe is blobs of particles participating in intercourse), and all humans are equal, no race or class is actually superior to any other.

Everything else about Freemasonry though is just a social club. All the conspiracy theories about Masonry though is what it is, fiction, but damn entertaining fiction!
