Which religion should I try?

I'm looking for a religion that best fits my beliefs as I really want a religion to belong to. Hopefully someone can help me find some religion

1. I believe that there is a god. I believe this god can intervene in human life, but doesn't except for extreme cases.
2. I don't believe in Jesus as a prophet or messiah.
3. I don't believe in any kind of idols.
4. Any kind of religious hierarchy like priests are more of teachers and not any closer to god than a devout follower.
5. I'm undecided on evolution vs. creationism.
6. I believe in some kind of after-life. What it is I'm not really sure. I don't think you have to be a certain religion to go either. Religion is more a way to improve oneself and the lives of others.

Welcome to RF :) search around the DIRs for more information on each religion and see if one fits with you. Just a suggestion for you. I wouldn't advise a specific religion to you as I am not quite sure where I fit so not my place to do so, I am just happy being me without a label at the moment.

Thank you! I've been looking around a little and I'm leaning towards Buddhism or Judaism, but I'm not sure Buddhism supports my belief in a god.

Join in discussions, create threads, ask questions, I'm sure that will help. dyanaprajna2011 maybe a good person to contact regarding Buddhism for you.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Enlighten. :) As far as a belief in god goes, Buddhism does not accept the idea of a personal creator god who governs the world. In Buddhism, the gods are seen as higher evolved spiritually, at the moment, but are still subject to the laws of karma, death, and rebirth as all other sentient beings. They were at one time humans, and will be humans again. It's because of their good karma that they were allowed in the position that they are now in. In Buddhism, enlightenment, or if you want to use the term salvation, is largely a process of individual personal growth, to be done in one's own power, not by praying to and appeasing some ultimate deity. Anymore questions, just ask. :)

I suggest this religion: Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
Seriously, it's one of the more appealing and benign religions I know of... :sarcastic

maybe you need to stop and think this one out for a little while. Ask your self this. are you just looking for a club to join. Because that is what you are doing if you are looking for a religion that fits your beliefs. I mean if you really what a religion that matches your beliefs, start your own.
I too am searching for a way to worship the Creator. I too start out by looking for a religion that matched my beliefs. Then I came across some one that pointed out how foolish that was. DO I what to worship the creator or do I just what to worship anything that does not really make a difference to the life I am now leading.
You may just what to try finding out which of your beliefs are true and which one are just convenient for you. I have not found a religion yet and maybe I am not even looking for a religion. I believe I am looking for the truth, which is more important . just saying. It may be worst your time to put your beliefs up for review.

I would say that the best religion is the one you create for yourself because it'll fit you perfectly with time. However, not everyone wants to do this. I would consider reading up on a bunch of religions.

Have you looked into of the various Pagan or nature based religions? This may interest you, if only for the knowledge.

For me, religion has always been about getting closer to whatever god is out there. That's why I want to find a religion. Because it helps me get closer to him. It's a personal thing.

You are right about that, religion is a personal thing.

I second what Odion said; give the Belief-O-Matic - Beliefnet.com a try. It's not perfect, but it can help to narrow it down a bit.

And I don't about Buddhism, but Judaism fits most of what you've posted. As do others.

Check out the DIR's. There's a lot of information available here.

Compare the largest 2 religions of the world. Christianity (Bible), Islam (Quran). Read the translation of holy books of the religions. Compare them. Compare the character of the God in them. I’m sure He created everything within the universe. So He must have power to everything. While reading, remember that the book is His words. If you are confused with anything in the book, search for the meaning. Oldest is Christianity and latest is Islam.
Compare the description of God, Paradise, Hell, afterlife, the way of living etc in each.

This here would be the most practical way of going about based on the OP description.
Nothing beats finding things out for yourself, at your pace, and on your own terms.

This is the smartest statement I have read on this or any other forum.:clap

Nice to meet yoU Sabbie i hope you 'll find the right way
I know everyone says my religion is the right one!!! and God told us *about people who dare each other about that
But i tell you :
1)it's a promess from God to people who are seeking for Him that He will lead them to Him
2)if 50 tv channels report an incident (for example boat sank) every channel diffuse a reason of sinking
Imagine 50 different stories! however you r sure one channel only says the truth ,do u agree?
3)the answer is verry simple and obvious
The answer is inside you!!!!
God created us with a commun sense or (nature upright)
Everybody has this commun sense which is a balance that makes us know the truth
For expl 4+5=9
good is better than evil.....etc
If someone says 4+5=34 or evil is better than good ,You cant convince him coz
*he is going againt the commun sense*
Next time i'll continu ok bay
