Catholic Church Stolen Babies Scandal in Australia: Nuns drug women to steal their babies

I don't know. I guess it's that I'd like to think that people, especially Catholics, aren't that stupid. But, then again, my optimism for humanity has been proven wrong before, and by even by Catholics...

I don't think this story is made up. Plenty of scandals going on all the time. This one during a time when they could more easily get away with it. The women were probably young and out of wedlock, so from a Catholic perspective of that particular institution at the time, they probably thought they were doing what was best for the child.

Somehow, I'm not buying this.

I know it seems impossible that it could happen, but it did happen absolutely not doubt in my mind because my mother had her baby taken from her.

She was 17 and unmarried... her experience is very much like the lady in the clip. She was drugged when she went into labor and told it was pain relief, she heard the baby cry after it was born, then they took the child away and mum said she passed out, then when she woke up was told her baby had died. That was it. No death notice, no viewing of the body nothing...just thanks for coming see you later.

so i believe this story is quite true.

I guess instead of me saying "I'm not buying this", what I should have said was "I don't want to believe it, because I don't want to believe that humanity can be this appalling."

Unfortunately, humans do far worse all the time.

we can do some pretty horrid things to each other

it makes the reality of this scriptures so clear:
Ecclesiastics 8:9 All this I have seen, and there was an applying of my heart to every work that has been done under the sun, [during] the time that man has dominated man to his injury

The British government was caught up in a similar scandal. They forcibly exported orphans and children from problem families to Australia and Canada. They became virtual slaves in their new homes. The government has now apologised.
The catholic Church and western governments are responsible for many outrages concerning babies, children and young women. certainly from Victorian times to the late 70's ( may be still).

We have no Idea what goes on in the Middle East and the East.

For those responsible for the care of the vulnerable to act like this, is beyond outrageous

Yes, it is outrageous, but it is just what one should expect given the way religion erodes morals. The most dangerous people around are those who think their actions are divinely sanctioned.

I figure human trafficking has been an age ol' practice, but I find it peculiar that those who would seemingly be the most appropriate the trust were probably one of the statistically worst places to go.
