Hatred of Christianity!

Why do so many people want to point the finger at Christianity for the evil done in its name instead of pointing the finger at the human heart? Pointing the finger at Christians is the same as pointing the finger at scientists saying look how evil science is pushing these drugs that can destroy lives on every T.V. comercial that pops up.
Hey Got a sniffle? try Snif away!
Side effects include headaches, nashau, depression, liver disease, flat tires on car,dog runs away, wars and rumors of wars.........etc.
science is evil and slowly murdering people through chemical processes all in the name of the almighty dollar!
Can't point the finger at science for the evil in mans heart.
Those who are full of evil and hatred ,greed will spread it by anymeans necessary and they will use the Bible, science,or any other means necessary to justify themselves.
Its not the institution of Christianity that is evil just like its not science or medicine that is evil.Pharmaceutical companies used mans faith in science(and in doctors with dumb commercials) as a means to push there selfish agendas for profits.
I don't blame scientists or consider them evil even from all of the horror and devestation that has been done through its creations.
Attacking the establishment of Christianity for the evil that man has in his heart is the same as attacking science and medicine for the evil being done in its name.
Christianity is one of the most strongest love based religions I know of and is why it is always pesecuted and in the state of resistance against hatred!

You are so right. I get tired of it too.

For what it's worth I don't think Christianity in and of itself is what causes it, but it certainly doesn't hinder it either.

I see religions in general, and Christianity in particular, as being enablers. They enable great good or great evil.

In much the same way, dynamite is an enabler. It can enable a farmer to remove a stump from his field with greater efficiency than he'd otherwise be able to achieve. And, likewise, the same dynamite can enable a terrorist to blow up a school bus and kill children with greater efficiency than he'd otherwise be able to achieve.

Religion is like dynamite. It is not the sole cause of good or evil. But it often enough enables good and evil to be done on a larger scale than they would otherwise have been done.

For example, homophobia has been with us since time immemorial. But backed by religion, it becomes a consuming wildfire.

It certainly feels more insulting and attacking when your affiliation is the thing being criticized. And in the West, Christianity sure is attacked more than other religions.

I see it as this: the dominant or majority party/class/religion gets criticized the most, whatever that class or religion may be. It's the most visible and the most influential, and it's the easiest target, as long as you're in an area where you're allowed to freely express your opinions on the establishment.

Add a few other components to that - diametrically opposed views between some beliefs, a dubious history as an institution, and a religious text which is debated, and attacks are par for the course.

Although I do not approve of mocking religions, if it's 'why', I think a few reasons come to mind:

  • Exposure, as it's the largest and most well known religion in the world, with a significant number of ex-adherents with a chip on their shoulder
  • People don't fear any violent repercussions speaking out against it
  • It's a proselytising religion. Proselytism annoys a lot of people
  • Some bad things were done in Christ's name
  • A lot of homophobes identify as Christian (which makes sense as America is a Christian majority nation. I live in an area with very little religion in comparison, and I've met a lot of atheist homophobes)

Again, I don't support the mocking.

In India, Hinduism is disadvantaged and there are people who give hassle and mock it. There is even a religio-political movement with one of the articles of faith stating "I renounce Hinduism, which is harmful for humanity and impedes the advancement and development of humanity because it is based on inequality" (which isn't true, even if some people have misused it).

I think it just boils down to exposure, history, etc.

My opinion on why, anyway.

The United States is not a christian nation. We may have a great number of Christian adherents but our laws are based on secular principles.

They do once in a while try to force a theocracy through the democratic process but the constitution prevents it.

If we were a Christian Nation it would go against the entire purpose of the existence of the US, which was founded on secular principles in order to prevent any one church from gaining a foothold in government.

I don't think Christianity has been persecuted in America, unless you're one of those peculiar folks who believe that greeting customers at Wal-Mart with "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas" is blatant persecution. In which case, you should be discussing that with your therapist and not on an internet forum.

I can think of a few reasons why Christianity is attacked, and all of its own doing:

1. The Crusades.
2. The Inquisition.
3. The forced conversions and massacres of indigenous peoples.
4. The right wing fundamentalists in the US trying to get laws passed based on their religious beliefs.
5. Proselytizing and evangelizing.

Satan attacks what is holy.

You all know how deeply the community of faith has been wounded recently through the attacks of the evil one, through the penetration of sin itself into the interior, yes, into the heart of the Church. Do not make that an excuse to flee from the face of God! You yourselves are the Body of Christ, the Church! Bring the undiminished fire of your love into this Church whose countenance has so often been disfigured by man. "Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord!"(Rom 12:11). When Israel was at the lowest point in her history, God called for help, not from the great and honored ones of Israel, but from a young man by the name of Jeremiah. Jeremiah felt overwhelmed:"Ah, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth" (Jer 1:6). But God was not to be deterred: "You do not say, "I am only a youth': for to all to whom I send you you shall go, and whatever I command you you shall speak" (Jer 1;7)

matthew 5:11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

what on earth are you complaining about, you are not of this world right....?

You have made a few references to dynamite! Do you not feel science has been a strong enabler of destruction in this world even much more so than any religion?

I meant to type Christian *majority* nation. I will correct that now.

Suppose some nation governed by fundamentalists gets nuclear weapons and seeks to bring about the end of the world and the coming of their messiah by blowing up their neighbors. In a hypothetical like that, which is the greater cause? Religion or science? I don't think it matters. Both are enablers. We certainly should not discount the influence of the one simply because the influence of the other is also present.

Why do you go off topic and try and acuses and find fault.I am speaking of the religion of Christianity and your trying to narrow it down to a specific (you). It is this very same heart and mindset that starts hatreds out of prejudices. What is it in your heart you are trying to justify?

I'm sorry. I fail to grasp the meaning of your apparently poorly conceived ramblings.

So extending the average lifespan by more than two times is bad?

Also the American that will live to be 150 has already been born, and that is thanks to modern medicine and science.

This is more than enough for me. If you consider yourself a part of an institution, then either defend its past actions or apologize for them, but don't just try to pretend like it didn't happen or doesn't have anything to do with you.
