Osama bin Laden is dead!

Levite

Higher and Higher
My question: how come it took the world's only remaining superpower a full decade to manage to hunt down a six-foot-six Saudi terrorist on permanent kidney dialysis?

This might've been more impressive five or seven or ten years ago, before we wasted uncounted billions and thousands of lives on a war that had nothing to do with this guy, and instead let the fight that actually did have something to do with this guy go to hell in a handbasket.

I'm just sayin'....

Well he was probably hidden by the ISI and they arent really bad with their work.

But then again for the last years pakistan ensured everyone that he was in afghanistan. ;)

I think most people that looked into it in any depth came to the conclusion that he was in Pakistan.

Well, Yippee! The Witch is dead! Where's the champagne? Is 630 in the morning too early to start drinking?

I only hope the monster factories around the world would suffer a permanent kink in their cogs, so the likes of Mr. Laden will be few and very far between in the coming years. Wishful and naive, duh. But still it is a thought.

"While I understand the iconic importance of the event he is less than a figurehead in today's world."

Yawn....

Hardly a major player on the world stage any more

important enough for some:

The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on Monday condemned the killing by US forces of Osama bin Laden and mourned him as an "Arab holy warrior"

a little difference here for the new partners to work out;

"Getting rid of bin Laden is good for the cause of peace worldwide but what counts is to overcome the discourse and the methods -- the violent methods -- that were created and encouraged by bin Laden and others in the world," PA spokesman Ghassan Khatib said.

I say good riddance.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
I honestly don't see what the hoopla is about. I thought this guy was dead months or years ago. Who knows - he may have been. There's no telling how the powers that be might spin a story once it's been confirmed that he's dead.

To even pretend that he's "the head of the snake" when it comes to radical Islam is nothing more than wishful thinking.

Get over it. The guy was not worse than any other politician round the corner. To call him 'evil' makes little sense, unless of course we call every politician evil.

OK, so Osama bin Laden has just been killed, and his body has been buried at sea, so very few people have actually seen the dead body.

And we haven't seen a recent photo or video of Osama in years as far as I can tell, right? And he had chronic kidney failure - has had it for the past ten years, right? On the run, living in caves, never spending much time in one place.

Perhaps a dose of skepticism might be appropriate.

I agree. I find a lot of the information around him in general to be worthy of skepticism.

This part is too much:

"We regard this as a continuation of the American policy based on oppression and the shedding of Muslim and Arab blood," Ismail Haniyeh, head of the Hamas administration in the Gaza Strip, told reporters.

Until they broadcast a picture of the man dead, it will not stop.

And I am staying away from WTC right now. That place is a mad house. and I am not even going to think about Penn station...

He wanted to be the modern caliph. At least he was as rich and militarily powerful as any caliph. In some ways, he achieved that stature. He was a hero to many Muslim youths all over the world and was treated like Saladin.
