Is It Wrong For MacDonalds To Advertise Happy Meals

I am very late to this conversation, but I would like to say (and I apologize if it has already been discussed):
If you stop advertising of McDonald's Happy Meals, then you would also have to stop advertising for any kind of snack food, cereal, frozen entree, etc aimed at children. But why stop there? Why don't we just stop advertising of anything that may be unhealthy for children and adults. Then we would have very, very few commercials and we could watch TV more enjoyably (I hate commercials interrupting my shows all the time, anyway). ;) :D

I agree with you there, about how commercials ruin television, but the tv companies have to make money somehow, and what better way than to promote a product from a big corporation? Why leave it at one? why not have 20 every 5 minutes?

Seriously, I live in England, and in a 1 hour program, you get 20 minutes of advertising, and only 40 minutes of actual content. Luckily the BBC is advert-free, because we pay for a TV license. Other channels, however, are not.

I still think that we should not advertise in schools, or at least limit it.

The government is intervening so a parent doesnt have to say no.

No, the government is intervening to prohibit corporations from targeting children. Rhetoric doesn't impress me.

Interesting. I would say fine to all of those but schools. No one should be allowed to advertise in schools.

Why not? You could simply move if you don't like a school's particular advertising. Hell, you could home school your kid; it's a free country. Why should the government intervene with schools and marketing to stop parents from saying no? Why not prohibit liquor commercials on kids networks? Because their parents can't say no?

Maybe, but it hardly ever worked. It usually ended up with me getting spanked.

Ever get what you want for Christmas?

What? Wow, lol. I like the one you have now, is that the new one?

Yeah. :D

I was being a little sarcastic. ;) But I don't mean get rid of all commercials, just not show as many. Back in the 70s, they showed about 2 or 3 every 15 minutes- now they show 5 or 6 every 7 minutes. :)

I was not aware that I was using rhetoric. What I do find interesting is what you just said = what I said.

Ok, then allow it in schools too.
Ever get what you want for Christmas?
Nope, rarely.

I like it! :D

Indeed. Saying that legislation to prohibit certain forms of advertising to take place is not to say that the government is intervening on how parents raise their children or replacing the eliminating the need for parents to say no. To suggest otherwise is pathos and rhetoric.
