Is It Wrong For MacDonalds To Advertise Happy Meals

Its still annoying as (He double hockey sticks) to have a 5 year old whine in the back of the car everytime you pass McDonalds. I know my dad would pull the car over and give us a reason to cry. I would get arrested if I did that.

Its the modern times, your not allowed to hit your kids or yell at them you have to discuss everything with them but they can still whine, throw tantrums, yell at you, tell you they hate you. What happens is you cave from time to time.

The only reason there doing this is because of a crappy stupid toy that they advertise to the child. I can still take my anger out on Business's.
You can spank your children...You cant beat the crap out of them though.

Like I should spank my kids for wanting a toy that relates to a movie they saw and the tons of comercials for the movie and for the toy the mcdonalds show's daily.

If I did I would be a bad parent.

McDonalds is advertising the toy aimed specifically to attract kids to their meals. Most agencies probably pay them to put the toy's in the meals. Yet they refuse to even try and offer better suggestions for the children, even though Childhood Obesity and diabetes are at all time highs in the US. So they are clearly out for the money. If some lady wishes to make a change that could help millions of parents and children then more power to her. She is not trying to get money but forcibly change a corporation greedy practices. I wish more people where like her.

You're not allowed to advertise fast food to kids here. I think that is fair enough but ultimately it is the parents responsibility and this woman is crazy.

I told the doctor it hurts when I twist my finger. He said, stop twisting your finger...

If you don't want your kids to be unhealthy, don't feed them a diet of fastfood.

If your kids whine and cry if they don't get the toy from McDonald's, then don't let them watch TV commercials.

Don't let them watch tv, read magazines or listen to the radio or go to school because other kids will promote the toys as well. Kids are Kids there going to cry and whine and get mad. Most of the Adults I meet are the same way.

Lets make fun of a woman trying to make a change that would be good for a lot of people so that a Multibillion dollar corporation can make another billion dollars. Do you think McDonalds would go out of business or lose tons of money because of a stupid toy.

Yeah you are all right McDonalds is the good guy here.:angel2:

This actually got me thinking about all the things we advertise specifically to kids and that to be fair we should have a ban on advertising to kids as a whole.

Kids can not differentiate between TV and reality and it is quite unfair of companies to take advantage of this.

McDonald's is a company. It's not their job to be the "good guy." Conversely, it is parents' job to be good parents. Not teaching them to misplace blame is probably a good fundamental lesson.

She is not teaching them to misplace blame. She is teaching them to challenge others even if they are bigger and have more money than you. She is very much being a good parent by taking away the temptation. Leaving knifes out so you kids can play with them even though you told them not to is not good parenting. She is protecting other kids when their parents are not. If she suceeds no one is hurt plenty will be helped. If she loses it is the status quo.

If you read up on this the organization she is using drops the suit imediately if the company makes changes. They are not out for money just change.

McDonalds will probably lose more money defending the case then they would if they just removed the toys but they believe they will lose more if they remove the toy so they won't.

She is battling for kids, McDonalds for money that's all I'm saying.

Besides that, many fast food places now offer healthy alternatives like fresh fruit, milk, yogurt, that sort of thing. I think McDonalds does as well.
McDonalds was one of the first ones to offer healthy alternatives. And from what I have read from different "Eat This, Not That" articles, because of McDonald's smaller portion sizes they are actually the better choice in fast food, when compared to places like Burger King or Checkers/Rallys that have very large portions.

McDonalds once had the McLean Deluxe. Twas a good low cal burger, but I never
saw anyone else order one. The public shunned it, preferring greasier fare.

If she was battling for kids, she would tell her own "No." It isn't McDonald's responsibility to monitor what others eat, how much they eat, or how often they eat McDonald's. This responsibility is up to the consumer. And it is common knowledge that fried foods and fast food in general is not good for you.
Honestly, rather than get rid of the toys everyone should work at McDonalds for a week. And then when more people see just how gross it is, the issue of the toys would probably not be as prevailing as McDonalds would probably loose alot of business.

I don't remember hearing about that one. About when did they have it?

Thats not why your spanking them, your doing it cause they are screaming and yelling at you.

The point of a business is to make money. So dont criticize them for having a good business plan. Obesity and diabetes are not theur faults, people need to man up and take responsibility for what they eat instead of blaming a business cause they dont have the guts to admit they cant control themselves.

I have no problems with McDonalds trying to make money, just like the cigarette companies they should be allowed to try.

I have a problems when a person is insulted for trying to do something that is good for others especially kids.

I really doubt removing the toys will damage McDonalds at all or make any difference but I refuse to fault a person for trying to make a change.

It seem everyone thinks that McDonalds is bad for you. Is removing the toy going to make matters worse or better?

Here's what I see for a result. McDonalds has an immediate profit due to the cost of suppling the toys and advertising. Contributing advertisers find other outlets promoting growth in other areas. After a time McDonalds loses some kids. The parents still need to feed their kids and better restaurants grow or produce stores have better sales. The only loser the chinese manufactor of the toys.

Leave it to Wikipedia to cover historical burgers.
They dumped it in 1994.
That is why then. I was only 8 in '94. That would have been something I might have tried, despite it bearing the infamous Golden Arches on the wrapper.

I have a problems when a person is insulted for trying to do something that is good for others especially kids.
Suing them is not fixing the problem though. If helping others is even her goal (which is probably a very big if), then she would have started first by telling her own kids no, and then by encouraging other parents to say no. And in all reality if you normally eat a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise, then the occasional fast food isn't going to hurt you that much. Unless that is your body simply cannot handle the large surge in grease going in the stomach, and then your bowels probably wont be too happy with you but overall you'll be fine.

"I am concerned about the health of my children and feel that McDonald?s should be a very limited part of their diet and their childhood experience," said Parham, from Sacramento.

"But as other busy, working moms and dads know, we have to say 'no' to our young children so many times, and McDonald?s makes that so much harder to do.

"I object to the fact that McDonald?s is getting into my kids? heads without my permission and actually changing what my kids want to eat."
That pretty much sums up that she is not being a good parent. Kids see hundreds of thousands of advertisements, and there are certainly ones that she would probably find more objectionable than a happy meal toy. And if she is worried about McDonalds getting into her kid's heads, then all she has to do is explain to them, and it may take many times but patients is a must for parents, is that McDonalds is not a healthy food choice and it should only be eaten occasionally. Yes you do have to tell your kids "no" on many things. Why should another "no" for the benefit of their health be a difficult one?

Personally i don't think so. They do have a point about the cognitive stage of children, but ultimately it is the parents who feed the kids Maccas.

Mind you i don't have kids so i'm not too sure.

But from my own personal experience when i was growing up we had maccas maybe once or twice a year and there was plenty of advertising.

And you know what, i don't remember ever being that upset that i couldn't have it.

What do you guys think?

People like this annoy the crap out of me - wasting tax payer's dollars on crap lawsuits. Why should business be compromised because people are inacapable of making sound decisions for themselves? It's absolutely ridiculous.

As a parent I control what my children watch and I make the decisions as to what's served for dinner. End of story. If my kids don't like it...tough. It's not rocket science and no one is forced to purchase what's being sold out there. Sheesh.
