There are Satanists in the USA who claim to do animal sacrifices to Satan. As in killing a farm animal (such as a goat) and drinking its blood. While I find this distasteful, and most Satanists would never partake in this practice, it cannot be said these things never happen.

As for hurting animals without there being a sacrifice, that is more a symptom of mental health problems. Not a religious practice of any kind!

Concerning cats, there are a few areas in the US where (Christian) hunters would like to be able to shoot domestic cats for sport in rural areas where cats roam free even if they are attached to a farmstead. Being a cat-lover, that horrifies me.

The animal sacrifice thing is a myth to denounce Satanism (like being baptised in urine, killing babies etc) Most Satanists think of animals in much the same way other people do, something to be enjoyed and protected.
Now in Demonolatry (which could be argued to be a branch of Satanism) some sects do sacrifice a chicken. This practice is generally considered distateful now, but some still kill and eat a chicken at feasts (it's considered essential to eat the chicken afterwards as we don't believe in wasting life. Indeed the act of sacrifice is literally to make the chicken sacred).

To back up what the others said... animal torture/killing/sacrifice is a result of a screwed up individual. They are in every path somewhere. Satanism does not advocate it and typically the people don't. Some will find a way to use some form of satanism to justify their twisted desire though. Once again, that's the case with most religions though. Somehow, somewhere, the individual can twist the information to justify their sickness.

There are several denominations of Satanism, but for the most part there is no need to harm an animal unless in self-defense or for hunting. And often people who have some psychological disorder and they torture, mutilate, and slaughter animals are often associated with Satanism because most people do not comprehend that human DNA is capable of producing some very cruel and sadistic people, and since Satan is societies bogeyman for everything bad, then it's assumed that surely such a warped individual is worshiping the devil.
