Killing in the name of Christ?

So... Millions of people have been killed in the name of Jesus Christ. Historians have estimated between 15 million killed in his name. This mostly includes Jews (WWII), Witches (Salem Witch Trials), and Pagans.

Were these murders Christian worthy? Or were the people that killed them just straight up nuts?

The people who killed them were ego-maniacs who felt their ideas and religions were better than the rest. We all know how Jesus and God can be vengful against those who do not beleive in them. So men took a page from the good ole' book and killed those who did not convert and denounce their gods......

Bat **** Nuts if you ask me.....

That ain't how it works. Those acting in the name of "name" are killing in the name of self, those are the ones making all the racket, stirring up all the chaos. Those acting in the name of "Name" are up to a whole different order of business, and avoid the headlines like the plague.

Ususally.

Many , if not all were extreme radical zealots with no association to Christ nor his movement....but purely driven and motivated by self righteous religious indignation.

I don't think those people were crazy. Their beliefs were influenced by the understanding and interpretation of their religion at the time. It could go back that way in the future.

I really hope that never happens again... especially in that quantity. I don't care if it is for one's religion or not... killing people for thinking differently is not right. Killing in the name of Christ is WRONG until proven right.

I wouldn't say 'proven right' because the people who take the Bible literally tend to use the Bible as proof of its own credibility. Imo, killing people for thinking differently is never right, period.

This may be another good forum topic but I'm just going to throw this one out there anyway... Do you thing the Bible was a good influence back then? To all the people who killed? There are verses here and there about how God and Jesus killed, or would have killed those that didn't believe.

I love how you can discriminate within your own community.

Those people who killed in the name of Christ didn't really know him... Give me a break, they were Christian murderers killing in the name of the Christian god. You can twist it any way you want with your "interprutation" but it's bolagne.....

Straight-up nuts, diabolical, and also horribly misguided.

Sometimes all three.

Who did Jesus kill?

Read the Bible and you'll find he had a body-count of zero.

I'd like to know how this 15 million figure is tallied. While Christianity played a part in supporting anti-Semitism, it was Nazi ideology driven by Hitler's dictatorship that brought about the Holocaust. If we take out 6 million, we have 9 million dead over about 19 centuries, and most of that is because the king/queen happened to be Christian and used the name of Christ as a reason for murder.

The atheist Stalin killed as many as 90 million people during his reign. Was he a good, worthy atheist?
