It's all so overwhelming

How does a person ever decide what religion (if any) they believe in and will follow?

There is soooo much information out there about soooooo many different religions,
it seems like a person could study and read and learn and ponder their entire life
and never discover everything there is to know about all the different religions.

Without knowing everything about any one given religion or all of them,
how can a person ever be 100% sure it is what they believe and will follow for the rest of their life????

So many religions... so little time :faint:

I start with what I know & consider what can be known.
It ain't much, but I'm not theologically ambitious.

Start off by naming a few of the things you believe in, and searching from there. I remember trying this religious "quiz" sort of thing to see what category I fall in to. I'm not sure how exact it is but it's worth a shot if you wanna try it.

It is really in depth so if you don't understand a question, you should ask someone. I got Unitarian Universalist... It fits me pretty good because I believe a number of concepts. My beliefs change every day though depending upon what I learn. Don't be discouraged because you haven't found where you fit best. I'm still searching! ;) And... don't overwhelm yourself. Take your research slowly. There's no big rush. :) I'm sure if there is a God, He/She will understand.

I would start by trying to figure out exactly what you are seeking. Are you after a congregation, a set of beliefs, a teacher?

If the religion you grew up with is not too obnoxious, start there.
ugh... the Christians I knew were just a bunch of hypocrites,
and most Christianity seems to be more of a production nowadays that a religion to me.
So... I don't think I go that route... too much bad experiences growing up.

I don't know. If I were in your shoes, I'd start by figuring out what I already was pretty much convinced of -- not necessarily intellectually, but what I felt in my heart was true. Then I'd try to figure out what religion, if any, fit my beliefs most closely.

it just makes it hard, because I believe in sooo many different things.
Such as? Seriously, this is the only logical way to go about it. Don't let it overwhelm you. It's a process of elimination, really. Now I wouldn't necessarily say that you're going to end up finding "the Truth" this way, but you will probably be able to find a religion that will end up making your life better than having no religion at all -- provided, that is, you are really spiritually-minded at all and really want to find something that works for you. (If all else fails, try UU. :))

no... not necessarily

Wiccan Rede, reincarnation, the Golden Rule, the rule of three, the majority of the 10 commandments, every living thing has a soul, the Godess, the teachings of Buddha, ying and yang...
Sounds like eclectic neopaganism to me. :)
