what do you do if you have to travel for days or weeks?

I arrange for someone to come in at least every other day to handle, food, water & litter.
Plus the cats must be scolded & berated....something all cats deserve.

Cats are super independent...if I'm leaving for 1-5 days, I leave them with plenty of food, water, and a few clean litter boxes and ask someone to check in on them 2 or 3 times, or depending on where I'm going I'll bring them too. If longer than 5 days I'll ask someone to petsit or use a boarding kennel I trust.

My parents use to sneak them on board...but I wouldn't reccomend it. So many places don't accept animals.

I have my sister or family member feed and water them once a day. They don't need as much attention as dogs so that's one bonus for owning a cat.

Last time I left for 4 days, I just opened up the cat food bag and put it where the cat could get in, and left the faucet dripping. My cat likes running water better than the water I put in her dish. When I came back she was fine. A little lonely, but that's all.

Being that I have totally spoiled my babies, I hire a service to come by daily to feed, check the water, check the mail, clean the litter box and play with the laser pointer for about 1/2 hour.

The downside being that the sitter has spoiled my kids even more than I do and now they demand treats incessantly when I first come home. Which, since I want to keep my face, and keep my bed free of vomit I give them.

I have someone come in. I will be gone for 7 days and I will miss my poor cat skittles. I love him skittles is the best. Last year I was gone for almost 5 days i put out a lot of food and water for him and layed much of his toys out. He loves company me and him play often.

Ya, that's what we do too. In fact, my kid does this for the neighbors too, Cat sitting.

I've left my baby for weekends when I was single with plenty of food and water, but she spilled everything I left out so I wouldn't leave her longer than that unsupervised.

For longer trips, I was lucky enough to have a real good kennel where they adored my baby and treated her like a mascot and kept her in the office much of the day. Sadly, they closed. Tried another kennel, and it musta been hell on earth, her throat was sore from crying and I doubt she was ever let out. Sad, and I was plenty mad as you can guess. So be careful if you use a kennel, only go by recommendation.

We usually get a next door neighbour or friend to pop in every other day or so. We put her in a cattery once, which she seriously didnt like. Was shaken up after for a while, not herself. Pretty traumatic it seems! But not all animals are the same, so it may work for some cats.

Completely different to our 2 silly dogs, who we took to a similar dog place, anticipating an unhappy animal following the cats experience. On arrival they ran off to join in, didnt even look back! They had a whale of a time on holiday!
