Comprehensive Sex Education Versus Abstinence Only "Sex Education"

Hey everyone! I was just wondering what everyone's viewpoint is on the whole Comprehensive Sex Education versus Abstinence Only "Sex Education" debate is? I put "Sex Education" in quotes for the Abstinence Only type because I do not believe that it is truly sex education. I believe it is more of a religious indoctrination than anything else. So yeah, I am for Comprehensive Sex Education and am against Abstinence Only "Sex Education". I believe that teens need to know the basics about sex, safer sex, and contraception. I believe they should also know the basics about masturbation and alternative sexualities. What do you believe?

I believe that what is critical for teenagers
is to practice the moral law in regard to their
sexuality. Of all the things you mentioned only
abstinence is a legitimate choice.

a loving relationship will most likely result in sex

The social rules that we have put around such relationships were inevitable when Pregnancy was the normal result.

Today this is not the normal outcome unless intended.

Sex and relationship education, is also the norm in most civilised countries.

I strongly disagree. Abstinence is not the only "legitimate" choice. All of them are legitimate choices, even abortion if a contraceptive method should fail or an accident happens. Also, various people have varying views of the moral law. Nobody fully agrees with what the moral law supposedly says on things like this. Everyone has their own opinion and that is okay. I personally happen to be of the opinion that the moral law is fine with those who practice responsible sex before marriage.

Failing abstinence, then what?

Exactly! Many teenagers are not going to want to practice abstinence and they shouldn't have to! So, failing abstinence, then what, as you asked?

This is true. I agree that viewing sex as dirty, sinful, or morally wrong is an attack on God. After all, God created sex. God created sex to be an enjoyable and sometimes procreative act between a couple.

And yes, loving relationships usually do involve sex. They are supposed to. A sexual relationship is often a healthy relationship. Of course, a sexual relationship can be an unhealthy relationship as well. One should not be in a relationship where one partner is using the other as an example.

I agree that sex and relationship education is the norm in most civilized nations. It should be that way. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of nations like some Islamic nations where contraception isn't even sold or allowed for married couples! To me, that is sad. And if I understand correctly, some Islamic countries not only forbid the use of hormonal contraception, they also forbid the use of barrier methods of contraception such as condoms and spermicide. To me, that is an outrage. A person should have the right to use contraception of any kind they choose if they want to. Therefore, if the product is being made and is available for sexually active people, it should be readily available and sold in at least a few places like pharmacies.
