What is a "Seeker" then?

Hello, I've noticed this new DIR on RF, and I'm wondering - what is a "seeker" exactly?

Is it like a "Truth-Seeker" in the realm of conspiracy lore? Or is it like in the Dragonlance novels, where there are "Seekers" who promote a fraudulent pantheon of made-up gods?

Or is it something less fantastic? Something more mundane perhaps; a spiritual seeker, looking for the answers to all the big questions; why are we here? what does it all mean? who am I? ETC.

Could someone please tell me? Thanks in advance.

I would say it's option #3. People who haven't decided on a religion or set of beliefs, and who would like to discuss that, I suppose.

I didn't come up with the idea for the board, so I'm not 100% sure. :)

I like this new forum!

Can we proselytize seekers here?

Just kidding!

I am a seeker at heart, so I hope I can post here, too.

:D

Luna, nice to see you still on here. I still haven't found what I'm looking for either, so I guess I must be a 'seeker' at heart too. Seek and ye shall find, some old religious figure said in some dusty book, methinks...let's hope there's something real to be found. ;)

Thank you, Random. Good to see you too!

Sometimes I seek God. :cross2:

Sometimes I seek a way for harmony between different worldviews. :peace::meditate::atheist:

Sometimes I seek chocolate, a cup of tea and a good book. :coffee2:

I think I'm seeking option 3 right now!

Yes Random, all the things you outlined, a seeker is merely one who seeks that which is sought. However in the context of religion the seeking would be directed towards such goals as Truth, God, Reality, Nirvana, Immortality, etc..

In this regard and if the wisdom of Chan/Zen though is indeed wisdom, then one can save a lot of time through understanding that,..."THIS which is seeking is THAT which is sought, and THAT which is sought is THIS which is seeking." (Wei Wu Wei) Which is why Jesus was able to say "The Father and I are one", and therefore went on to tell others,..."The Kingdom of God is within."

Well, I guess it is someone looking for... something...
Or someone trying to catch the Golden Snitch.

I am seeking a path and a community to commit to... (A terribly general answer, I know.)
Hmmm. Well, I'm not sure I want to commit to anything. Seems like if one is a "Seeker", there's no need for a long term relationship....your thoughts of the world just evolve and flow and change.

Simply put, a seeker is one who is one who does not know his or her spiritual beliefs, and is actively seeking (hence, a seeker) them. Often, those who are seekers are searching for more than just their view on God, the afterlife, and so on—they are usually (but not always) searching for a community, as well.

Simply, I guess this is true for most seekers (since I was a nuisance seeker here for a long time) out there. I know I sought both inner-peace in the form of spirituality, and a religious community with whom I would share spiritual views in common with who would accept me as an adherent in the faith. :)

I think that may be a good start for some people, sounds harmless enough. :)

For me, it's not important to really "know" my spiritual beliefs. I'm quite content not to have a box to come home to. I simply try to have my ears open toward a nugget of information to toss in my cognitive basket to perhaps pick through later. At this point in time, I'm sort of like a Magpie, I just pick up what looks interesting and discard what isn't.
