Does Lemon Juice Really detox you?

DallasApple

Depends Upon My Mood..
There are probably certain members that would know if this is true or not Im not naming names..

And anyone can answer with their knowledge..

But the question is does drinking lemon juice (fresh squeezed) with nothing else added but water actually act as a "detox' agent to remove toxins from your body?

OR does it just wear the enamel off your teeth and give you heart burn?

Im not talking about a "product"..Im talking about fresh squeezed lemon juice..(ya know buy a lemon in the store and squeeze the juice in a glass into warm "plain" water?)..

And I dont care if "toxins" is an abused term the fact is they exist..and our liver and kidneys and colon and other organs have to try and eliminate them..

Thats like saying.."So what you sucked on an exaust pipe of a car ..the word "toxins" is over used " so dont worry about it.".

Or so what your taking chemo therapy and its poisining your system because its actually poison..the word "toxins" is over used so dont worry about some juice..

But anyway thanks for your opinion Kat.

"Toxins" is such an abused term I tend to immediately disregard any product that refers to them.

I guess Im going through my peri meno pre menstural time because your response is really irking me..

Can you clarify for me?..Are you saying that our bodys do not have to breath and injest and then eliminate toxins?

If you arent saying that ...then what does my question have to do with anything you said?

Unless you are trying to say that you 'discredit" that certain foods or a certain diet or a certain increase or decrease in above said have no affect on how effeciently or quickly we eliminate the toxins .

Here let me make it easier for you..lets "assume" there are things that are polutents to our bodies ..whether they are things that arent really "toxic" in the right quantities .. but can be if overdosed on as in vitamin A,,(and other overdoses)..and things that arent good for you even in small doses at all as in mercury or lead...(not that you are going to die of a heart attack instantly from any exposure but its definately not good in any amount at all..Zero would be best)..

So assuming we are in fact exposed to "toxins" due to exposure from injestion wether by breathing or eating or over dosing(breathign or injesting) on dangerous chemicals and heavy metals and assuming those are residing in our body tissues and organs for however amount of time untill we flush them out ...

The question is ..does pure lemon juice help detox the toxins out of your system..

When it comes to commercial "detox" products, she's right.

Have a look at this link if you're curious: Debunking the detox myth « Skeptic Zoners

If you want to drink lemon juice in water, I'm sure it won't be harmful... but it's not going to do anything to eliminate "toxins" from your body. If your kidneys and liver are working properly, then they'll eliminate toxins all on their own without lemon juice. If they're not working properly, then you need to see a doctor to get you onto medication, dialysis or similarily major medical intervention.

I suppose dilute lemon juice might act as a mild diuretic, but that'll just make you expel water and salt, not "toxins".

So ...we cant eat certain foods that help boost our body specifically and help make it more effecient to do what they do naturally on their own?

Im not trying to disagree with you 9/10ths....But thats to me like saying.."our bodies burn fat all on their own..and if they arent brurning enough fat and you are 100lbs overwieght..dont change your diet or worry about excersize..go see a doctor and have lipo suction instead .if need be.

Also 9/10 ths..Im not talking about kindey or liver failure..Jesus Christ.

Do you think Im crazy enough(maybe you do I dont know) to think that someone who needs dialysis or needs a liver transplant can just eat a lemon instead?

AYE never mind..

Also I dint not EVER ask about "commercial" "detox" "products"..Read my OP..But apparently my OP was skipped completely over and we are talking about"product scams" and liver and kidney failure needing major medical intervention..when all I was asking about was drinking pure lemon juice in water to help you naturally detox.

Hey Dallas,

I'm totally with you on the natural remedies. My dad has always used natural remedies, even through two cancer diagnoses, one of which he was given 6 months to live, back when I was 3 yrs old. I use doctors in moderation.

As far as your OP, I have not personally tried lemon juice by itself, but one of my good online friends posted a recipe with lemon juice and cayenne pepper and something else made into a sort of tea. It will give you mud butt, and if you are really filled up with junk he said it will actually make you smell really bad for a few days. For those reasons I haven't had an opportunity to try it yet. lol. But in that particular online community, many of the members did try it and posted that what he said was true and they all did feel it was a very successful easy homemade detox regimen.

I can try and hunt it down for you if you'd like.

When it comes to detox products, yes, pretty much. Some commercial "detox" products are benign, but some are nothing more than diuretics that can be harmful in large doses.

If you feel like drinking more lemon water, go for it. It won't get rid of any toxins, but it'll be a lot better for you than drinking stuff with a lot of sugar or artificial sweetner in it. Plus it'll help you ward off scurvy. :D

No, it's more like "except for extreme cases, the best way to burn fat is a balanced, moderate diet and exercise. Don't try to starve yourself or use fad diets to lose weight."

][/QUOTE]

This is my original question.

Next thing I know Im beign told that the word "toxins " is abused ..and products are scams and someone needs to go to the doctor for kidney dialyses if they have kidney failure..

I would rather people just say I have ABSOLUTELY no idea if drinking pure lemon juice acts as a detoxing agent in anyones body..

I guess I shouldnt have asked..Im not in liver or kidney failure..

I've answered your question a few times now. Lemon juice and water won't be bad for you, but it won't help you remove toxins.

That would be sweet of you..at least you have an open mind and believe that certain foods and diets can actually HELP the body in certain areas at certain times...

You wouldnt believe what I "heard" about mushrooms"..they HELP replenish a bodys certain need during major stress and including chomotherapy so patients are encourageed along with modern medicine to eat them under chemo and radiation..I guess along with OTHER nutrients they are "extra special" in helping to build your ammune system under extreme stress..

They arent the "cure"..they are a "booster" and thats all I was meaning about the lemons..I "heard"..they were a good detox agent ..for the liver..

Most people dont eat lemons everyday ..ya know? But they might if they needed too..

Thank you 9/10ths..I appreciate that..I actually never gatherered that lemons would be bad for anyone being that they are loaded with vtiamin C..I have heard that eating them raw all the time can wear away at the enamel on your teeth other than that I realize lemons arent bad for you ..

And your saying they wont aid your bodies natural ability to remove toxins ..

Thank you for ansewring my question..(twice)..:)

Here is where we are getting mixed up hun..I NEVER was asking about any "prouduct"..Im talking about what we eat (whole foods like lemons)..Not a "product" that is marketed as some sort of cure for weight loss or detox regimen..

Its like if I said "should I drink milk or eat cheese and green leafy vegatbles to aid in the prevention and stave off current bone loss""..

And every one started saying ..THOSE commerical "products are a scam"..And "bone loss" is an abused word..and then further said..."if you have deteriatng bones you need to go to the doctor for major medical intervention of osteo pshorosis.."..

And sure eating calcium rich foods isnt going to "hurt you " but it isnt goign to build your whole skeleton for you ..your body does that on its own..

"Does eating blue berries help your brain stay normal"

Hell no..you need to go to the doctor if you have brain problems and have brain surgery..

Blue berries arent going to "hurt you",.,.But if you have alzheimers or dementia blue berries arent going to cure it.!

Hey ya'll what about cabbage? my 96 year old grandmother swears by it..

Lemon juice has some health benefits, they have anti bacterial and anti viral properties, they also have vitimin c and are a mild diuretic, they can aid digestion as well, and some studies say they can help control gall stone production.

As you said though, they do disolve the enamel of your teeth, if you dilute it with water and take a glass in the morning (perhaps with a straw) you could reduce the concentration of acid.

I think what Kat and 9/10ths were saying is valid though, there is pretty much one thing that eliminates toxins from your body and that's your body, it pretty efficient in this and all it needs are the fuels from your food and sufficient water to do it.

Are you talking about a lemon juice FAST?

I think the detox part is more in the fast part,
than in the lemon juice.

By squeezing fresh juice from oranges, grapefruit and lemon
you get a little bit of pulp
and also vitamins
while you fast from 3 days to a week.

I rather think that's how it might aid in the detox process.

An intestinal flush is probably a pretty good idea as well.

I don't think lemon juice ITSELF will detoxify you.

(but what do I really know?)
