A fitting Easter question

Did Jesus really rise from the dead or did the gospel authors make it up? Much as I respect Jesus as a man, I think they made it up.

The crucifixion and resurrection myth is indeed derived from earlier pagan myths, such as that of Dionysus, Horus and Krishna, among others.

I don't know if the crucifixion part was a myth. The Romans crucified a lot of people they didn't like. Jesus could have been crucified for being innocent as well as any other innocent person the Romans crucified.

I like to think that Jesus did indeed rise from the dead.

Happy Zombie Jesus day everyone!

I think he was crucified for being a jerk. The Jesus I've been hearing about recently seems like a real prick. No offense, but in some Lutheran children's bible I've been listening to, he seems like an *** hole. I'd have crucified him too if he acted like that, throwing fits and over-turning tables because people are selling things in a church and ******** at people for sleeping instead of praying? What a dick...

I don't know if Jesus did all that stuff either. Jesus didn't write the gospels either. I assume such a person existed, but not necessarily like described in the gospels. The Gnostic texts describe a Jesus who is much more enlightened and philosophical.

My question is this: If we aren't meant to be selling things in places of worship, then why are their rummage sales inside churches all the time?

Yeah that's a good question isn't it? Then again, those church bake sales can be pretty tasty

I remember when I went to church a few times. They preached whole sermons about tithes and offerings. I guess they needed money, LOL

When one understands that the New Testament is a very, very, condensed history of the life of Jesus, indeed we are told that if everything about the life of Jesus were recorded, all the Books of the then known world would not be able to contain that history; then one begins to understand that, that which appears to be no more that some irrelevant trivia, was not put there for no reason at all, but to guide you to a hidden truth.

Take for instance the fact that it is recorded that Jude, a half brother to Jesus, whose full appellation, is "Thomas Didymus Jude," the son of Alpheaus who is also named Cleopas, who is also the Father of James the Brother of the Lord Jesus.

"Didymus," is the Greek for "Twin," but a twin to who? Why state that Jude the brother of Jesus, See Matthew 13: 55; was a twin, then not tell us who his twin was, or if he even were an actual twin, but instead, was given that appellation simply because he held a striking resemblence, to someone else, perhaps one of his brothers.

And it seems strange, that on the first night after his resurrection, when he appeared to 11 of his disciples, who were cowering in fear in a dimly lit room, that Thomas Jude, who is called the "Twin," was not present that evening.

Honestly, I'm not suggesting they made it ALL up, just the less believable parts, possibly.

Okay, why? (I just read an interesting article on the subject, and am interested in knowing if your reasons were addressed.)

More likely than not, Jesus had a twin brother. His name may have been Brian and that may have actually been the inspiration for Monty Python's Life of Brian movie. One of them was crucified and the other claimed to have risen. An obvious scheme to commit heresy, but a very good one for its time.
