Christians who oppose homosexuality

I am not meaning to make a generalization, but it seems that many Christians are against homosexuality simply because "the bible says we should." When asked why they do not think open-mindedly on the subject and come to their own conclusions on whether or not it's a sin (with God guiding them of course) they say "it is a sin to go against the bible and let in evil thoughts." From the bible, though, it says

[17:36] You shall not accept any information, unless you verify it for yourself. I have given you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brain, and you are responsible for using them.

Does this not mean that God WANTS you to be open-minded? If so, how can doing so be a sin?

anyhoo, I dont mind homosexuals, I have a Gay friend myself we hang out, like any other friends, but if said do i agree with what he does, I would have to say no, but then again I see it as I disagree with what alot of people do, but I dont hold it against them you know what I mean? I try not to judge people by my belief system after all if they dont believe it then how can I expect them to adhere to it? It illogical unreasible and not very fair.

I haven't ever met a Bible-believer that says that it's a sin to question what the Bible says as true or not.

It is a sin to go against the Bible (according to Christian belief), but it's not a sin to question what the Bible says. They two are entirely separate things.

I definitely wasn't suggesting that all do, but I do know many. They think that questioning the bible is letting evil or satan in

The vast majority don't. In fact, most Christians I've met (including staunch fundamentalists) are willing to engage in discussion over moral topics. Even if one person in the discussion holds views that are contrary to Biblical opinions.

Of course, and I am glad that they do. I was simply wondering why some do not believe they can do so (without sinning, as they say are).

There is nothing wrong with questioning what the Bible has to say; however, the Christian is supposed to ask GOD through prayer to bring insight to HIS Word. And I have found that GOD does in fact bring insight and understanding to those really seeking it. If someone is just looking for an excuse to reject GOD's Word, they are not going to receive the answer they want...

the problem is which translation
which interpretation

as such the bible is horribly subjective as there is no definitive translation or understanding...

arguably of courser it would be worthless if there was a definitive interpretation
but literalists tend to miss that

It may not be that they are trying to reject it, though. It may be simply not understand why it is considered a sin.

Some modern scholars reject the idea that the bible considers it a sin....

One also has to remember, Jesus never has anythign to say on homosexuality

I'm not sure I've ever heard someone say that, but I don't think it makes much sense - at least in Sola Fide Protestant denominations - to worry that much about sin, including homosexuality (if it's right to count it as a "sin"). From what I understand, they preach that it's not righteous action that saves you, but the Holy Spirit, and once the Holy Spirit dwells in you, this will express itself in your actions. The people who outwardly looked and acted righteous but didn't have inner faith were condemned by Jesus as "whitewashed tombs".

IOW, don't worry about sin, worry about faith. Once faith is in place, the sin will take care of itself.

It's never made sense to me that people who have that appreciation of how God works would get all worked up about things like sin in society.

Where JESUS CHRIST spoke concerning the LAW, it was always for a matter of clarification. Where no clarification was warranted, none was provided... The LAW was clear on men lying with men.

The LAW was also clear on slavery, which Jesus did not speak about either. What can we conclude from that?

Do you feel the same way about people who eat shellfish?

"They (shellfish) shall be an abomination to you; you shall not eat their flesh, but you shall regard their carcasses as an abomination. Whatever in the water does not have fins or scales; that shall be an abomination to you." (Leviticus 11:11-12)

And slaves are with us to this very day. Some people labor for nothing, including children in some countries, so some "entrepreneur" can make his fortune. What did JESUS concerning the poor and why did HE say it?

No, it was not. It use to be that they should be put to death, then it became an abomination, and now it is just a detestable sin. If it was so clear why does it keep changing?
