hey guys, I was reading through a thread I made, (which I aplogise for, I wasnt think when i posted and it was outta line)

but I came across a interesting point that i wanna carry on to this thread.

Do I give up my Christian faith when I say I believe in evolution.

I was a great talk between storm and others, so I wanna see what everyone else thinks.

I for one believe that the Creation story was probably a narrative designed to show that God created, not how he created. that is a horribly short version and Ill elaborate if i have too but its late and i wanna get this question out before I forget.

Seems to me that Creation and evolution do not have to contradict or butt heads unless you take a literalistic view of the Bible.

You can be a Christian and believe in Evolution. The two are not incompatible.

It's simply that, as Mestemia already stated, the 100% literalistic view of the Bible goes out the window.

I think it depends on what you believe. You could believe God created some organisms billions of years ago and then they evolved into other species. Or you can only believe half of evolution and think it somehow doesn't apply to humans who god created however long ago it's said to have happened. I think it just depends on what exactly your faith is.

Evolution is not compatible with a lot of religions, but I think you can believe parts of some religions and still accept evolution as true. I mean to say, you might think there is a god who made the world and the first simple organisms and then just let nature take its course from there.

Believing in evolution changed my perspective a lot of my religion but did not make me an atheist.

Both the Bible and evolution can not be true. So either the Bible (god) is lying or the Bible is no different then Aesop's fairy tales, because evolution is fact. If God created this universe and devised all the laws that govern it's existence, why wouldn't that be in his revealed word? Why would his word be so contradictory to science? Why would there be a constant battle between a rational world view–one based on logic, evidence and observation–and a world view based on bronze age goat herders who knew less then your average 4th grader about the natural world?

Can you have evolution and faith? Sure. As is stated above, lots of people do. But they have to jump through a lot of hoops to get to that point.

The religious are continually whittling their axiomatic concepts to match the every increasing volume of evidence because all religions tend to be anthropocentric, while the universe is not. They can continue to believe their modified faiths but that is all as they are nonfactual guesses of antiquated concepts metamorphising into structures totally different to those originally conceived by primitives.

I can recall a book written by a Christian pastor saying that the story of creation in the bible is symbolical.

The bible isnt about science though its trying to tell something completely different. People did not hold sceince in anywhere near the regard that we do now adays so why would God suddenly begin providing answers like evolution when they dont care, to them God created everything that was enough. Strangely enough that is how I feel. :angel2:

Yes, when you accept evolution you must give up your religion by reciting its holy scriptures backwards and then making a blood sacrifice of an immediate family member -- preferably one that is still young and innocent. Of course, all of these things will come natural to you upon your acceptance of evolution.

If you can't see the point, there's little point in pointing it out to you -- do your own work. Don't expect me to do it for you, sir.

In response to the OP faith and evolution are completely unrelated. Belief and evolution both require evidence. However without a literalist view of the Bible, with a reverent (non-synical, not unquestioning) not many hoops have to be gone through to see they are very easily compatible.

And all of science is based on concrete realities and unwavering values? No true assertion in science has ever been proven false and reiterated?
