I'm Sad

We found out today that one of our cats, Nutmeg, has cancer. I know, it is just a cat, but we love this cat. She is calico colored and has been losing weight lately. We took her to the vet and we found out she is sick. :(

There`s no such thing as "Just a cat".

We`ve had two cats for years so I can understand how this news must hurt and I`m sorry for it.

Now I`m sad.

I agree with linwood. And to me any animal can be as precious as a human. So I am very sorry both for you and your cat.

if it makes you feel better i've had cats, dogs, cows, chickens, chicks, pigeons, rabits etc etc die before and didn't even worry about it. life goes on. just get a new cute small cat and forget about the sick one.

It's normal to miss what you love, and to feel empathy for a suffering entity. I would always cherish a life lost, even if I move on with mine. I would always miss a companion.

what can i say?

i'd feel the same way if i was to hurt or kill any living creature by accident, but those that die naturally don't really get to me, be it human or animal.

Well, that can be good I suppose. In a religious sense, nothing ever really dies. But even if that creature lives on elsewhere, its still normal for people to miss it :)

People are usually sad and bothered when someone or something they love must suffer. It's part of human nature; it's empathy.

Sorry to hear about your cat. If anything happens to our kitty "Baby",
I wouldn't know what to do. It's hard to have a member
of your family be sick. Stay strong. We are here if you need us.

if their presence makes you considerably happy, then definitely their death will hurt you. The understanding everything would die wont help you in such situation. Everything has positive and negative aspect, impossible to escape from its negative face after gaining its positive face.

i'm sorry but i just can't explain this stuff properly, everyone isn't the same.

i really don't care all that much about things dying (i thik i've said this a 100 times now). it is shocking at first due to not having it's presence, but what is there to do? nothing really appart from moving on.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Having to have my last dog put down a good 5-7 years before we should have had to was the worst experience of my life so far. They are not "just pets". They are little people.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Christine, I am so sorry to hear about your cat. And Nutmeg is such a cute cat name! I bet she's a sweetie.

We have a siamese cat named Cato, and two 90 pound dogs - Big Mama (some mixed breed stray that is very old and fat) and Lucy, a young American bulldog.

Lucy doesn't realize she weighs 90 pounds - she still climbs up in our laps at every opportunity! And Cato is a HUGE cat, who weighs about 18 pounds - and he still thinks he needs to be a lap kitty too. And Big Mama is the sweetest, most loyal old watchdog ever.

So believe me, I understand the love you feel for your precious cat. I know I don't have to tell you this, but just don't let Nutmeg suffer. Just love on her as much as possible, and take lots of pictures of her.

My dad has a pet cemetary on his farm. The family's animals for the past 20 years or so are each buried there, with a little headstone that my dad carves for each of them. We always have a ceremony and lay flowers on their graves, and every time I visit there, I go out to the little cemetary and look at each little headstone and remember each creature.

When we have our little pet funerals, my dad always reads this passage and it brings us such comfort!

St Basil's Prayer:

The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof.

O God, enlarge within us the sense of fellowship with all living things, our brothers the animals to whom Thou gavest the earth as their home in common with us.

We remember with shame that in the past we have exercised the high dominion of man with ruthless cruelty so that the voice of the earth, which should have gone up to Thee in song has been a groan of travail.

May we realize that they live not for us alone, but for themselves and for Thee,

And that they love the sweetness of life even as we, and serve Thee better in their place than we in ours.

Amen.

Yes, little people with 4 legs. Now, as to your frubal note, "That there is a funny post" in regards to my last post:

First, please don't respond to me in frubals. It's cowardly and childish.
Second, this is not the place to air your opinion on this subject. If you aren't here to say you're sorry and support Christine, then just go away. If you want to tell everyone your ridiculous thoughts on pets and dying, do it in another thread.
