Children killed by wasps attack after adults protect themselves

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - Two young Indonesian brothers attacked by wasps died in a Malaysian state after adults who saw them being chased by the swarm locked them out of a room to prevent getting stung themselves, news reports said Monday.

Aziz Rahman, 3, and his 4-year-old brother Fazrul were playing with their friend Nuri Mestinal at a palm oil plantation near Sibu in central Sarawak when they hit a wasps' nest Sunday afternoon, the New Straits Times reported.

The boys ran toward the plantation canteen screaming for help with the wasps close behind, the paper said.

Plantation workers sitting in the cafeteria locked the door after seeing the swarm approaching, and only emerged after the wasps had left, the national news agency Bernama said.

The plantation workers found the brothers unconscious when they opened the door, the New Straits Times said.

Nuri survived the wasp attack but was hospitalised, Bernama said. Local hospital and police officials could not be immediately contacted for comment.

I am torn..

I am rather disgusted with the actions of the "adults".
I am rather ****** off that they acted in such a self serving manner.
I am saddened by the deaths of the children.
I am happy that one survived despite the "adults" wanting him dead.

Yeah, self-preservation is a normal response, but adults have a responsibility to protect those who can't protect themselves. I'm totally disgusted.

sounds like they ran away in panic. unfortunately people are not that good at thinking in panic. they would eventually regret what they've done.

imo what people could do in panic depends on individual himself. some people run like hell, some pause, some do the right thing even though there is no time to think. being selfish is common. this is very sad story :(

Depends Upon My Mood..
NO..They could have let the boys in and shut the door before the whole swarm got in the door and everybody could have lived even if everyone had gotten stung..

Unless you are "allergic" adults also can sustain more stings and live than little children ..

Even if the initial (instinctual) reaction was to keep the wasp out of the building I just dont know if I coudl have stood inside in the safety of cover knowing the children were outside dying.

I dont think I could do that but then again I havent been in that situation.

your assuming alot,
1 you assume the door opens easy
2 you assume the swarm wasn't already in reach of the children
3 you assume the children weren't sensitive to wasp stings
4 you assume they knew te kids were dieing/had no other place to go

Well, that is horrible. It sounds like those people were terribly insensitive.

Why should they care about children that aren't theirs?
