Pro-Atheist/Secular Music

I'm curious regarding music that specifically forwards atheistic, anti-theisitic, and pro-secular themes. Do any of you have any suggestions?

I'll start you off with a classic, and a personal favorite from my teen years:

Imagine by John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Heresy....NIN

he sewed his eyes shut,
because he is afraid to see,
he tries to tell me,
what I put inside of me,
he's got the answers,
to ease my curiosity,
he dreamed a God up,
and called it Christianity.

God is dead,
and no one cares,
if there is a hell,
I'll see you there.

he flexed his muscles,
to keep his flock of sheep in line,
he made a virus,
that would kill off all the swine,
his perfect kingdom,
of killing, suffering and pain.
demands devotion,
atrocities done in his name.

God is dead,
and no one cares,
if there is a hell,
I'll see you there,
your God is dead,
and no one cares,
if there is a hell,
I'll see you there.

God is dead,
and no on cares,
if there is a hell,
I'll see you there,
your God is dead,
and no one cares,
(drowning in his own hypocrisy)
if there is a hell,
I'll see you there,
(burning with your God in humility)

Choices always were a problem for you
What you need is someone strong to guide you

Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
What you need is someone strong to guide you...

If you want to get your soul to heaven
Trust in me, now don't you judge or question
You are broken now, but faith can heal you
Just do everything i tell you to do

Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
What you need is someone strong to guide you
Deaf and blind and dumb and born to follow
Let me lay my holy hand a, hand upon you

My god's will
Becomes me
When he speaks
He speaks through me
He has needs
Like i do
We both want
To rape you

Jesus christ, why don't you come save my life, now
Open my eyes, blind me with your light, now
Jesus christ, why don't you come save my life, now
Open my eyes, blind me with your lies, now

If you want to get your soul to heaven
Trust in me, now don't you judge or question
You are broken now, but faith can heal you
Just do everything i tell you to do
Jesus christ, why don't you come save my life, now

All very good. With the exception of "Imagine", they're all rather intense musically, I notice....

Thank you!

I tend to think of any music that's not blatantly religious as "secular." Is it just me?

I do too.

I just thought the OP wanted a Pro-atheist choice so I figured any song that floated the idea of god denial fit the bill.

:)

Yeah, I was looking for music with a specifically anti-theistic message. I mean, "Dancing Queen" is secular, but it wouldn't qualify.

And Storm, thanks for turning me on to Robbie Fulks! I generally shy away from country, but his stuff is magnificent.

Um, much as I love to share music, you've got the wrong audiophile. I never heard of him.

Oh, crap, that was Wandered Off.

*clears throat*

To be honest, I haven't heard it. My wife listens to Country, so I avoid it when I can.... A friend told me about him, and since you seemed to be looking for something a little less intense, I ran down the link.

Now I guess I'll have to listen. *heads for liquor cabinet*

Yeah... I focused more on the "pro-atheist" bit than the "secular" bit, though the OP also clarified that he was looking for "pro-secular" songs, which to me means songs that speak out in favour of keeping religion out of public affairs.

Yeah, I only mentioned it because I'm trying to think of something pro-atheist, and coming up with a lot of irrelevant stuff.
